You sit down in a chair on the ferry, trying not to look suspicious. However, some cranky old lady notices the broken handcuffs on your arms, then begins to limp around the ship telling everyone that a dangerous criminal is onboard the ferry.

In the frontier of Alaska, especially out on the ocean, law enforcement is pretty damn weak, so some random guys just pick you up and throw you off the ship.
