i just wanted to say, the line about dave chapelle's 'replacement' and finding mencia in a gutter, reallly reminded me of spike lee's 'bamboozled', when mantan quits, he is replaced in like 30 seconds by the angry white business guy running the tv show.
on the other hand, why is tihs page no edit? i aso want to pitn out that mencia's act is largely a bunch of racist jokes strung together, the kind of jokes that white people tell in private, or t least the unenlightened white people..... but since he is 'mexican', somehow that makes it ok to put it on tv, even though the audience is mostly white... and a bunch of his writers for the show are white too.
this is not just mencia's schtick,, i think it is probably a deliberate 'product strategy' on the part of the people that run comedy central. mencia either doesnt understand it or doesnt care... i think he just doesnt understand it, all that money he rakes in probably distracts him quite a bit from the philosophical pondering of life, history, art, and culture. now maybe the people running the network are not deliberately saying 'take racist jokes, have a non white guy tell it, make money'... maybe they are just clueless, and only care about the money.. they dont know why it sells, they just know it sells. i think this is what chapelle was talking about and why he quit the show...
on the other hand, there is no need for this article to use the 'n' word, that is ridiculous.
Carlos Mencia is one of the funniest comedians out there. He speaks his mind and gets major laughs for his talent. Now Dane Cook is a good example of a terrible comedian.
