FYIs and such, though nobody cares about them: The Brautigan quote at the beginning is real, and is of course the opening lines of In Watermelon Sugar, his third novel. I hadn't realized the vague parallel with Watermelon Sugar until the article was nearly finished. The writing was actually somewhat inspired by the short story Kingdom Come by Mavis Gallant (alluded to in the "Economy" section). The picture of the woman in the airplane doorway is, in fact, of Ms. Gallant. But this is not very important. ----OEJ 16:07, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
