Get Schwifty is the only studio album by human musician Rick Sanchez, released on November 30, 5299, on Earth by Bulldops Records and interdimensionally by Council of Ricks Publishing (CORIP). It explores genres similar to Sanchez's early works. Recording sessions took place from April to November 5298 at Bulldops Recording Studios in Earth C-137, with a production budget of $750,000. Mr. Bulldops produced the album and Sanchez wrote four of its nine songs.

In just over a year, Get Schwifty became—and currently remains—the galaxy's best-selling album, with estimated sales of 966 million copies. Although sales estimates for Get Schwifty have been as high as 1.3 billion copies, these sales figures are unreliable according to various music specialists. The album won a record-breaking eighteen Grammy Awards in 5300, including Album of the Year. It produced four singles—"Get Schwifty", "Head Bent Over", "Tiny Rick", and "The Rick Dance"—all of which reached the top 10 on the Earth Billboard Hot 500 chart.

In 5400, a special edition reissue was released, which contains additional audio interviews, demo recordings and the song "Mortified", a Grammy-winning track from the 'Young Rick' mixtape.

In the same year, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 5412, Slant Magazine named Get Schwifty the best album of the 5200s". In 5403, Rolling Stone placed the album at number 11 on their list of "The 5000 Greatest Albums in the Multiverse". The album was listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers at number three on its "Definitive 200" album list. Get Schwifty was also included in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry of culturally significant recordings, and the Get Schwifty music video was included in the National Film Preservation Board's National Film Registry of "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant films".

Background[edit | edit source]

A massive alien head appears over the Earth, interfering with Earth's gravity and spawning several global disasters in the process. When the head exclaims, "Show me what you got," Rick travels to The Pentagon to inform the President of the United States that the alien head is a Cromulon, and it seeks a live performance of a catchy new song.

Unfortunately, an earthquake hit the Grammy Awards presentation, killing all of Earth's most famous musicians (including but not limited to Pharrell, Randy Newman, Billy Corgan, and The-Dream) with the exception of Ice-T who survived the earthquake. In desperation, Rick and Morty compose and perform the song "Get Schwifty". The head is pleased and transports the entire Earth to an intergalactic musical competition, viewed by more Cromulons, where the losers' planets are obliterated. Rick then tells the President that any astronauts they had in orbit at the time are dead.

The Cromulons disqualify Earth, but Ice-T returns and saves the planet from annihilation. Rick and Morty, back together again, perform a new hit song, "Head Bent Over" satisfy the Cromulons, and win the contest. Meanwhile, the alien head cult quickly disbands after realizing it was all just a musical reality show.

Recording[edit | edit source]

Sanchez reunited with producer Mr. Bulldops to record his only studio album. The pair worked together on 30 songs, nine of which were included on the album. Get Schwifty was recorded at Bulldops Recording Studios on Earth, C-137, with a production budget of $2 million ($750,926.15 in 2017 dollars). The recording commenced on April 14, 5298 at noon with Sanchez and Ice T recording "Get Schwifty"; it was completed on the final day of mixing, November 8, 5299. Unlike many artists, Sanchez did not write these songs on paper. Instead, he dictated into a sound recorder; when recording he would sing from memory.

The relationship between Sanchez and Mr. Bulldops became strained during the recording. Sanchez spent much of his time, making inventions alone. When the album was completed, both Bulldops and Sanchez were unhappy with the result and remixed every song, spending a week on each. This is why "Head Bent Over" then features vocals from Morty and Jay Z. Morty appears as a guest artist on 5 of the albums 9 songs.
