Bielefeld is a non-existent city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, situated north of Teutoburg forest. If it exists, it would be the 18th largest city in Germany. With THEM starting rumours of the fake town on German Usenet in 1994, 98% of Germans now believe the existence of Bielefeld.

Alleged History[edit | edit source]

According to THEM, Bielefeld was founded by Count Hermann IV of Ravensberg in 1274. In 1994, the fictional city was included into forged Hanseatic League records dated to the 13th Century. It was supposedly a producer of linen and images photoshopped by THEM show cloth money being produced.

Many believe that the occupying British Army had set up their headquarters there after World War II. However, the soldiers and officers who claimed to have been there have simply been brainwashed. A few faked photos and videotapes on green screen were enough to fool the public.

Setup[edit | edit source]

In 1994, rumours were started by THEM that Bielefeld, was, in fact, an actual town. Using a painted plastic sheet to fool satellites, the town appears to be completely real on maps. A hologram of the simulated buildings are projected 24/7 so that anyone looking in its direction sees a normal town. Anyone who gets close enough to see the projectors and the poles supporting the canopy is immediately sprayed with amnesiac and forced into VR goggles, showing them what they should see.

Not lying on any major rivers or having any well-known institutions or landmarks, Bielefeld is the perfect non-place to avoid scrutiny, as it appears to be a completely generic town.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

Bielefeld consists of 334,195 actors living all around the world in hidden facilities run by THEM. They go about their daily lives while making fake emails, social media posts, and videos to convince the rest of the world that Bielefeld is a real place. Sometimes, regular people are abducted by THEM and brainwashed that they have been born and raised in Bielefeld, then released to make the city seem more legitimate.

Skepticism[edit | edit source]

Although most people still think Bielefeld is a real town, some observant people have realized that they are being tricked. For example, Angela Merkel referred to the town as "if it existed at all" and "I had the impression that I was there", correctly guessing that she had been strapped into a VR simulator the entire time.

The so-called Bielefield City Council (really just a branch of THEM) has tried to silence these people by generating false publicity of the city online and upgrading their green screen facilities.
