What to nominate

Nominate an article you encounter that you believe does not belong in Uncyclopedia.

If you are trying to be helpful and searching for VFD-worthy articles, you may find some using special pages:

  • Special:DeadendPages --pages that link to no other pages
  • Special:LonelyPages --pages that no other pages link to
  • Special:UncategorizedPages --pages that are members of no categories
  • Special:Random --is a way to find pages you would never trip over otherwise.
  • Articles in Intensive Care are to be deleted unless they are improved--but some slip through the cracks.
  • Articles sent to QVFD that the admin decided didn't qualify for quick deletion may still be VFD-worthy.
  • Editors sometimes also keep useful lists on user subpages.
What not to nominate

Don't flood VFD with nominations. Don't nominate anything if there are already 20 active votes--excluding completed votes (where the article appears in red, because it has been deleted; or in gray with the VFD-padlock.png Closed nomination tag, because it has been saved). Excess nominations result in a one-day ban--no exceptions.

Don't nominate an article that was on VFD in the last month. (See Nominators below for how to find out if this is the case.)

You cannot nominate if you have no Uncyclopedia user name or if your user name is not 4 days old. But you can report pages that deserve deletion to the Poopsmith's Lounge. Just remember not to sit on the chairs.

Please don't nominate Main Page or Votes for Deletion; that's been done so many times we might just beat you with a nail bat. This also applies to Featured Articles and Uncyclopedia In-Jokes.

Nominators

Before nominating an article for deletion:

  • Check its history. If there is recent or chronic vandalism, revert it--as you are encouraged to do for any page. Proceed only if the best version you can find in the history is also awful.
  • Read its talk page, if it has one.
  • Click on What links here. If the list includes a page of the form Uncyclopedia:Votes for deletion/Archivennn, it means the article was nominated before. Go to that page and read the previous debate. (Previously nominated articles may also be members of Category:Deletion Survivor.)

To nominate an article, edit that article and insert {{VFD}}. This puts a legend in the article indicating that we are considering deletion and should notify the author to participate.

Edit this section of this article and follow the directions that are comments in the code. You will be copying (not cutting) the empty template at the top of this section, pasting it in at the top of the list of nominations, and filling in the first Symbol delete vote.svg Delete vote, which you must sign. Do not worry that the template doesn't yet look like the others; it will be transformed (and the timestamp will be added) when you save the page.

Voters
We Took a Vote.JPG

Cast a signed vote for or against, or add a signed comment to, any of the debates by clicking edit on that section. Unsigned votes will be removed, without barring you from casting a signed vote later.

To the end of the desired section (Keep, Delete, or Comment), on a new line, add a new entry. Keep and Delete entries start with # because they are numbered lists. Take care not to deposit extra hard returns in the text, which breaks the list. Start comments with a * for a bulleted list. Using the {{Keep}} or {{Delete}} graphic is not mandatory; the mere fact that your entry is in a given section registers it as a vote. You can label a vote "Weak" or "Strong" and this will be taken into account.

If you care to, follow this with a comment, even if it is as short as, "The article is not at all funny." Useful comments will help admins and other voters assess the quality of the article. Follow the format of the other voters, and follow the directions in comments in the code.

(In general, Uncyclopedia advises you to do as much as you can to a page in a single edit. On VFD, however, make a separate edit to cast each vote. This indicates in the history which nominations are being voted on. It also avoids Edit Conflicts, which are more likely on VFD, as it is busier than the average page.)

Saving articles

VFD exists to improve Uncyclopedia, not to erase it. As well as having the nominator find the cleanest version of the article from the history, all users can correct obvious typoes and vandalism. If you want to take an article in a different direction, either grab a copy or file a Comment asking the admin to move the article to your userspace instead of deleting it outright. If the vote is running against an article, it is permitted to edit it in place, especially to correct problems raised in the voting.

Changing votes

VFD is a talk page. As always, you must not delete your comments, but you are welcome to change your mind and even your vote. Please strike through your old vote and file a new one, such as "Symbol keep vote.svg Keep. (formerly Delete)." Change your old vote, which begins with # to begin with #: so it is not given a number in the list. Adjust the Keep and Delete counts.

Administrators

Do not close any vote until the timer reaches 24 hours (and the legend turns red).

When processing a decision to delete an article:

  • Delete any images that are not used by any other article.
  • Check Special:WhatLinksHere and resolve any links to the deleted article from other pages.
  • Delete any broken redirects that were created.

When processing a decision to keep an article:

  • Remove the {{VFD}} template from the article.
  • Add {{Oldvfd}} to the article's talk page.

Poopsmith the page, especially when closed votes cause the page to exceed 20 entries.
