TV Tropes[edit source]

Oh yes, I know this is a work in progress. However, before I keep going with it, I'd sort of like to know: Is this article doomed to fail? What's been done right, and what's been done wrong? Is there an utter lack of direction? What direction does this need to go? etc. MacManiasig.png MacManiasig-cheerios.png MacManiasig-holmes.png MacManiasig-starwars.png MacManiasig-firefly.png MacManiasig-pixar.png MacManiasig-oregon.png MacManiasig-lesmiz.png MacManiasig-doctor.png HalLogo.png Portal16px.png UncycLensFlare16px.pngDalek16px.png ChekhovSig.pngJapanSig.png Sir MacMania GUN 23:36, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to do this one, it's funny since I just mentioned it in a review yesterday. Sequence 08:41, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Humour: 8 It perfectly represents everything that occurs on a TVTropes page. Obviously anyone who has spent hours browsing TVTropes will find this funny just seeing it like hits, so maybe I'm biased. Only thing I can say is it needs more. Try and get as many different TVTropes tropes onto the thing as possible. I've reduced the score a bit based on that (even though I don't think the number is the important part). A big part of the humour will be in seeing a massive page filled with tropes, kind of like the the Crowning Moment of Awesome page. If that is done though then attention needs to be paid to make each of the lines a joke in themselves. The TVTropes style works as a joke on it's own for now, but as the size of a page increases the funniness of the underlying joke decreases, so care has to be paid to make sure each example stands as a humorous piece on it's own.
Concept: 10 A page about a huge wiki style website on media tropes in the style of that website is a really good concept. I can't believe this didn't have a page until yesterday.
Prose and formatting: 10 Setting out exactly in the form of a TVTropes article is the best thing you have done. It's like practically being on the website itself. I didn't see any spelling errors either. Grammar works well as it is meant to look like a bunch of people writing stuff as they think.
Images: 7 The three images you have at the moment are pretty good. The logo and page image look exactly like what they have on their pages. I like the advertisement down the bottom as well. The caption for the featured picture is pretty good, although there are probably dozens of ones that could fit so maybe you could try thinking of some different ones just to see if anything else works. It would also be good if there is another add up the top just below the banner.
Miscellaneous: 9 I would definitely email this page to one of my friends (although I would probably have to point him to TVTropes first so that he gets the joke).
Final Score: 44 This just needs more examples. It would be really good if uncyclopedia articles articles that made use of tropes would also be included. There are apparently a whole bunch of them - http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Uncyclopedia - someone also needs to update that entry to point to the new entry here. One thing that I think needs to be done as it is being written is to make sure that they don't become too unorganised and that any unfunny cruft is pruned. If you want to talk about it more then you know where to find me.
