This episode of UnTunes Verified was recorded on 6 January 2022 at the UnTunes office during the 5th anniversary of the release of I'm Back & I'm Desperate. Despite being the first episode of the series, it wasn't released until November 2022, due to death threats from haters being sent to the staff of UnTunes at the time of the recording.

The episode's description on YouTube: "I'm Back & I'm Desperate" by Ed Sheeran is one of the most popular songs released in the year 2017. Not only did it win a lot of awards, but it also became the most streamed song on Spotify, and it recently gained a burst of popularity thanks to TikTok. The single was produced and written by not only Ed himself, but also by Steve Mac and Benny Blanco. In it, Ed sings about trying to get to #1 on the charts after having a break the previous year before the song was released.

This was one of my comeback singles released on that day in 2017, the other one being "On Top Of The Hill". I gotta have to admit, I really wanted to have a number one single after a well deserved break. I wanted to try something unique for my music, something that I've never done before. So I decided to do a tropical house track. Benny did the first few notes, and I liked them very much. So I used them for most of the entire song. What I like about it is that it is very radio-friendly and that it would have more plays on it. And it did! I was so excited that every time this song plays, I get more happier. But it annoyed a lot of people, which was my goal all along. Also, this is my favorite song that I've released in my career. I'm still proud of it.

Introduction[edit | edit source]

The year is 2016 and it's almost over. I'm in a studio with Johnny McDaid. I was thinking of ways to write a comeback song about, up until I realized that I didn't release anything in 2016. I didn't have a number one hit in a while, so this idea came up in my mind. So, I wanted to make a song about wanting to get a chart hit, hopefully topping the charts in multiple countries, even ones that I didn't chart in.

Verse 1[edit | edit source]

The club isn't the best place to reach number one

So the charts is where I go

I've been nearly shot multiple times and I've laid down low

Come over if you trust me, because you should now

Take my hand, and stop, play this song in the jukebox and now we're going to dance until we're dead, and now I'm singing like

This was a true story. After I got out of the studio after I recorded this song, I was so close to having my life flash before my eyes. There were stray bullets that nearly shot my body, but thankfully I survived. I also believe in the fact that you should never get a number one hit at the club, because no one's going to care anyways. Then someone took my hand and played this at their local bar, on the jukebox when it was released for the first time. I was going to mention one of my influences in this song, but I didn't really want to because I feel like that I'm the best anyways.

Pre-chorus[edit | edit source]

Girl, you know, I want you to love me

Give me your handmade love for somebody like me

Come on now, follow my lead

I'm not crazy, do you like me?

Say boy, let's not talk that much

Go ahead, grab my waist and put your body on me

Come on now, follow my lead

Come, come on now, follow my lead

Okay, I have to admit...it fails sometimes.

I have experiences with putting pick-up lines in a song. The pre-chorus is entirely out of these lines that I've made up, and I think those would be perfect for those who had their first date. Every time someone uses a lyric from one of my songs, there's always a 99% chance that they will get a partner instantly. I've played Cupid for several couples around the world and it is a guaranteed success for them. No bullshit.

Chorus[edit | edit source]

I'm back and I'm desperate

I released this song to pay off my debts

Although I almost cried myself to death

I'm still in love with this song

Last night I was in your room

Checking if you are listening to it too

Because if you don't, I'm forcing you to listen to it now

I'm still in love with this song

Oh I'm, oh I'm, oh I'm, oh I'm

I'm still in love with this song

Oh I'm, oh I'm, oh I'm, oh I'm

I'm still in love with this song

Oh I'm, oh I'm, oh I'm, oh I'm

I'm still in love with this song

Everyday forcing radio stations to play it

I'm back and I'm desperate

I spent a lot of money to go on vacation when I was on hiatus, so much that I nearly didn't have enough money to record this song in the first place. Thankfully, I still had a lot of money left to do it with the writers that I know of. I was so upset when I realized that I was in debt, but it was all paid off with a thousand pounds. And about that part about going into people's rooms forcing to listen to that song...I have to say that I've taken over a thousand people hostage, most of them radio hosts. If they didn't play this song, then they'd be held in the basement of my house for a very long time until they do. Yes, I was that desperate.

Verse 2[edit | edit source]

A week later, I saw you again

Now we're having our first date

You and me, we're very thrifty, so let's grab a cup and fill up a plate

We talk for hours and hours about everything we've done, I hope your family's doing okay

Now we're in the taxi, kissing in the backseat, tell the driver to play this song and now I'm singing like

Also we were on the taxi on the left. We were involved in a crash that I didn't sing about in the song.

This was something that I did with my then-girlfriend in 2015. This actually happened on our first date. We were very thrifty and we went to different restaurants. And then we started kissing in the back of the taxi that we were on. That was the time that we started dating. Fast forward and now we're married. And we did that a day before the episode was recorded. Did I tell the driver to play this song? Yes, I did. Otherwise, it would've been boring without it. And then the pre-chorus repeats. So is the chorus.

Bridge[edit | edit source]

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

Come on, please hit number one, come on

A catchy song can't be complete without a bridge that repeats only one line. All bridges in songs are like that. For this one, I wished that the song would reach number one in not only in my home country, but in other countries. When this song reached #1 in every single country in the world, I've never felt this happy in a very long time. I feel like that I was the only person who has done this achievement. Never in my life would this happen, but it did!

Outro[edit | edit source]

I'm back and I'm desperate

I released this song to pay off my debts

Although I almost cried myself to death

I'm still in love with this song

Last night I was in your room

Checking if you are listening to it too

Because if you don't, I'm forcing you to listen to it now

I'm still in love with this song

(Come on, please hit number one, come on)

(Come on, please hit number one, come on) I'm in love with this song

(Come on, please hit number one, come on)

(Come on, please hit number one, come on) I'm in love with this song

(Come on, please hit number one, come on)

(Come on, please hit number one, come on) I'm in love with this song

Everyday forcing radio stations to play it

I'm back and I'm desperate

I am serious.

The chorus returns again for the final time. I was originally not going to include the bridge at the end of the song, but Johnny told me the final part feels incomplete without it. So I did mix it in and turns out it was more catchier than I expected. I know it sounds like a mess with the chorus and the bridge mixed in. Hopefully more radio stations play this song now that TikTok made it more popular than it was released, because now I'm desperate for more streams. I need it to come back to the number one spot in every country after 5 years. If not, I'll do exactly what I did; hold people hostage for not playing this song. outro plays
