Hi there, thought I'd drop you a line about easy reverting since I saw your reports on Ban Patrol. If you find a page blanked/vandalised, the easiest way to revert is to do the following:
- Click on the "history" tab.
- Find the last "proper" version and check the box to the left of the user name/IP, then hit the "Compare selected versions" button.
- You should have two columns highlighted in yellow and/or green, with the differences marked in red text. The one on the left should be the unvandalised version.
- Click above it, where it says "Revision as of (date)". This should take you to a version of the page without idiot-stuff all over it.
- Hit the "edit" tab as you would normally, and you'll get an edit screen with "WARNING: You are editing an out-of-date revision of this page. If you save it, any changes made since this revision will be lost." at the top.
- Scroll down and hit the "Save page" button as you would normally - not forgetting to mention the fact that it's a revert in the comments box.
Hope this helps! -- Codeine 17:06, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
There's actually a slightly easier way. On the History tab you can click the date of the last valid version (something like 10:31, 3 Aug 2005); this will take you to the good edit and you can continue from Codeine's #5 above. You don't have to use the "Compare" button if you're sure what the last good edit is. Thanks for your help in getting rid of vandalism, by the way. --Sir Rcmurphy CUN 17:54, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Thank you all, I never contributed very much to Wikimedia sites and I got lost looking for a way to revert changes, so I presumed only admins could. --Fjim 18:46, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
