UnNews:Terraria going to be part of 3D Classics; creator asks "Why the fuck not?"
Tuesday, May 12, 2015
On May 7th, Andrew Spinks made a shocking announcement to both fans and others concerned: His magnum opus, Terraria, is going to be part of the 3D Classics line for the 3DS systems. When our correspondent plush asked him why he did so, he told us:
“ | Well, I saw the 3D Classics version of Urban Champion and I was impressed at what I saw. We, (as one would say) the Masters, figured that we could be capable of doing something similar. | ” |
To make things interesting, his team will try to finish off the port by the time the fourth anniverary comes up this Saturday (May 16). They're putting the final touches on update 1.3, bringing a pleasant restart on the development process.
The processes (and expected features)[edit | edit source]
Along with Arika, several well-known modders, and those who dealt with the mobile version, everyone was gathered together on May 8th to discuss how the development process would go. Everyone was divided into several groups who would handle each part of the task at hand. True to any other port of Terraria, some things have to be put in consideration in order to distinguish it from the others. Taking minor cues from EXPLODE!!!, the use of the stylus can be optimized to your liking- whether you would use it a lot, a little, or not at all. David Phelps explains:
“ | Nintendo DS [touch] screens are fragile and precious things. Despite the early marketing to all age groups, children will be children. | ” |
This version is the first of its kind to retain the original colors of the Plumber and Hero outfits, considering the obvious. Speaking of children, Andy's kids are going to be the first people to test this port to see if it could go well for them. They have reported modest pleasure from the tests; others will follow suit promptly.
What makes Terraria a classic?[edit | edit source]
As the Masters announced their plans on the development, many had doubts as to their masterpiece considered a true classic. First of all, you could get it on Good Old Games without DRM. The sheer fact that you could get it on GOG also tells you something. Then again, why not try something completely different? To retiterate, people are going crazy because Terraria wasn't released on the NES, Sega Genesis, or the arcades like most other 3D Classics. A note from the Masters (well, Victor Moura, to be more precise):
“ | Despite the remarks of the addition of stereoscopic 3D in Terraria, considering the obvious, sometimes we have to reach out to the fans. I was checking the worst thread ever and we were appalled by the suggestions. I understand that it's supposed to be a parody, but these guys have some decent ideas and we're open to adopting them in the 3DS version. We would like to thank everyone for the support that you've given us through the week. | ” |
The features that will come to this port[edit | edit source]
Report (as of today)[edit | edit source]
Spinks has reported:
“ | We are making a lot of progress today. 3DS owners should be able to try Terraria for themselves this Saturday! | ” |
