Marcellus Wallace is an African-American looking, humanoid character from the movie Pulp Fiction played by the actor Mr. T. In the movie he is the boss of an underworld gang that does very odd jobs. These jobs are so odd, in fact, that there is only one possible explanation as to why he is making them do the jobs and why many other things in the movie happens. It is the suspicion of many that Marcellus Wallace is in fact a robot.
Basic Specs[edit | edit source]
Marcellus Wallace looks just about like any other black, underground gang boss. He's average size, average build, and well average everything. This suspicious average-ness is one of the first subtle clues to the fact that he is most likely a robot.
Besides all the average stuff, he also has a bandage across the back of his neck. "What's that doing there?" the average movie watcher will ask themselves. Most people immediately dismiss this as the sort of injury a gang-boss would normally have, but that's because most people don't think. After all he's the gang-boss, he's not running around doing all the grunt work. If he wants his house painted, he pays someone. Hell, he pays a guy to take his wife to dinner! So why would he risk his health to do something that might injure him?
So if we rule out the fact that he may have injured himself, then we must assume that someone else injured him or something else is going on. The location of the injury makes it highly unlikely that he would have survived an attack without brain damage, or partial paralysis, but this guy gets hit by a car and is still running around! So it can't be an injury to a human, what does that leave? Keep this in mind as we go along.
Clues at Brett's[edit | edit source]
In the opening scenes of the movie, we see an altercation between Jules and Vincent and Brett's friends. During this, Jules refers to Brett as Marcellus Wallace's "business partner" and Vincent recovers a suitcase that has an object within it that gives off a bright, metallic shine. Why would these kids have something fitting that description? It's obvious that Wallace had them wither procure the object for him or do something to it.
The next clue is provided in the "discussion" that Jules has with Brett. In it, Jules asks Brett what Marcellus Wallace looks like. Brett is completely dumbfounded by this question and can only respond with "What?" While the layman would think that this was just caused by shock, the expert can clearly see that Brett's uncertainty stems from Marcellus Wallace not always taking the same form. This remind you of anything? How about the Transformers? That's right, Wallace is a transforming robot.
the last clue at Brett's can be found when Jules and Vincent are shot at by the kid with the "hand cannon." Jules chalks it up to Divine Intervention, and Vincent chalks it up "I don't give a shit" but perhaps there is a better explanation. Perhaps the thing in the suitcase was a sort of robotic part that gave off a strange, warping magnetic field that cause the bullets to fly around Jules and Vincent.
Think about it, wouldn't this be a great aid to Marcellus Wallace (who is a gang-boss), give off a metallic shine, provide the circumstances necessary for Jules and Vincent to survive, possibly fit in the back of a robot's cranium, make sense for Brett and his minions to either procure, fix, or do some other operation on; and be worth enough for people to want to keep it from Wallace? If you didn't answer yes, you may be mentally deficient, but there's still plenty more proof.
Butch vs. Wallace[edit | edit source]
Later on in the movie, chronologically speaking, Butch the Boxer is driving his car along and after seeing Wallace trying to cross the street, rams into him at full speed. Moments later, Wallace is right back up on his feet, procures a gun out of nowhere, and begins to fire at Butch. Now which is more believable, that he somehow was magically only slightly harmed or that he absorbed the blow of the car through a metal skeleton that he has because he's a robot?
This also explains his inability to hit a semi-retarded boxer who's moving slower than molasses down an open street, as it was likely his targeting system was damaged. Think about it, the metal framework is a lot more durable that the Japanese made electronics that were knocked loose during the impact. He manages to function fine, after being hit by a car, until Butch hits him repeatably where his main CPU is restored, causing a system restart.
The Obvious Conclusion[edit | edit source]
Put all the aforementioned evidence together and think about it. Everything in the movie points to Marsellus Wallace being a robot. He doesn't even go into his swimming pool in the one scene that he's talking on the phone. All of the other theories about him and this movie, that the suitcase contains his soul or that it contained diamonds or whatever other bunk and hogwash idiots could come up with; are entirely fabricated by manipulating facts to fit their hair-brained theories. This argument however, only explains what the facts would tell any thinking person and therefore is the correct one.
