The film will star DJ Qualls as Willy Gilligan, and William Shatner as the "Skipper", Anthony Hopkins as Thurston J. Howell III, Angelina Jolie as Eunice "Lovey" Wentworth Howell, Drew Berrymore as Ginger Grant, Hugh Laurie as Roy Hinkley (the professor), and Christina Ricci as Mary Ann Summers.

Shooting begins February 2008. Some scenes were shot in Oahu, Hawaii.

On Location: Anthony Hopkins has been deriving great joy from sneaking up on DJ Qualls and other cast members from the foliage and giving him the old Hannibal Lector treatment, "Hello, Gilligan." (oooooooohhhh). Hopkins reportedly follows these antics up with invitations to roam the deserted island hunting for wild boars." DJ Qualls admits he finds Hopkins creepy after having watched an all night Hannibal Marathon when he was growing up. "The Hannibal movies kept me up for nights and I had to sleep with the light on for a year." DJ Qualls on Hannibal Lector. Ricci informed this writer that Shatner and Hopkins made spears from bamboo and spent a whole night alone on the beach frolicing in their underwear in search of prey.
