A seamount is a mountain that rises up from the ocean floor but isn't a "real" mountain, because everybody knows mountains only grow on land, and they usually have snow on top of them. It also isn't an island, because it never reaches the surface of the ocean. Its stuck underwater.

So one day, a diver was swimming along, swam into this mountain, and decided to call it Gregg. Nobody knows why the name "Gregg" was chosen, as opposed to Harry, or Larry, or William, or Bob, or Ned, or even Jared. Maybe it had protrusions on it that looked like Gregg's nose, or maybe someone named Gregg sponsored the diving expedition. Nobody knows. The only thing we know about Gregg Seamount is that he is there.
