Arbophilia (from the Latin arbo ("tree") and Greek philia (φιλία, "love, friendship") refers to any positive relations between humans and trees. It is a term that has been used to explain countless types of homo-arboretic interaction for millennia and as a concept appears to be fairly ubiquitous, with such practices taking place in most world cultures - from Amazon to Amsterdam. However, it has only recently begun to be studied seriously in the past 20 years, largely due to increasing concerns about the effects 'logging' (the removal of trees from their natural environment and transfer to urban centres, for the purposes of human sexual gratification) could be having on the environment.
