About the Contest[edit | edit source]
What is the Boston Marathon Torch Pass (BMTP)?[edit | edit source]
Yet another writing contest. It emphasizes the importance of cooperation in the creation of good content for a wiki, as well as the competition that comes naturally with any contest. Therefore, we use the term "Coopertition"[1] to most accurately describe this contest.
The BMTP is unique in that multiple users work together to create good content. Entrants are organized into two or more teams of three that compete against each other. Members of the winning team are recognized individually and as a unit.
Why Boston Marathon, and why Torch Pass?[edit | edit source]
The BMTP was named after the bombings that occurred on Monday, April 15, 2013 in Boston. Through it, we at Uncyclopedia seek to honor the victims and survivors of the terrorist attack as well as the brave men and women who worked to save lives lighten the mood and try to make victims' families feel better through humor.
Surprisingly enough, the "Torch Pass" part came from the Olympic Games. Passing control of your article to other members of your team is like passing the Olympic flame.
Who can enter and what are the rules?[edit | edit source]
All registered members of Uncyclopedia are encouraged to enter, though a few conditions and limitations apply. Judges are barred from entering the competition (see here for the list of judges). The number of entrants must be a multiple of three, and there must be at least nine entrants.
At the beginning of the contest, all entrants will be assigned to their respective teams. Within each team, members decide on the title/subject of the article, as well as who will be Member 1, Member 2, and Member 3. You can figure this out on talk pages, in forums, or off-wiki; it's up to you. The page to be entered into the contest must be created in Member 1's userspace.
The writing period, which is two weeks long, is divided into four rounds, as follows:
- First Round (Days 1-4): Only Member 1 may edit the page.
- Second Round (Days 5-8): Only Member 2 may edit the page.
- Third Round (Days 9-12): Only Member 3 may edit the page.
- Final Round (Days 13-14): All three members edit the page.
During the entire writing period, team members are permitted to discuss their page, suggest edits to each other, etc. on their article's talk page. In addition, you may fork your team's article and apply the changes you made when you're allowed to edit, but only the original article will be judged.
Articles created prior to the competition cannot be submitted. All work must be you and your team's own and cannot have been made with the assistance of anyone else. In addition, Pee Review may not be used at any time during the competition, even for forked versions of your article.
When is the BMTP going to be held?[edit | edit source]

- During Week 6, entries will be locked and judged.
- At the end of Week 6, winners will be announced, articles will be moved into the mainspace, and all entries will be unlocked.
