The Kalevala, also known as the Silmarillion, or "HOLY SHIT PEOPLE STEAL A THING THAT CAN MAKE ITS OWNERS RICH FOR 30 OR SO CHAPTERS" is an epic poem composed by that dude who wrote a Finnish hymn, Elias Lonnrot. The Kalevala is most notable for uniting various strands of Finnish mythology and giving a rising country a sense of national identity. Naturally, it is one of the most influential pieces of mythopoeia ever invented; influencing Tolkien to make his own mythology, as well as that guy who wrote "His Dark Materials," a shitty coping section for basement atheists in three and a half pages. It comes with its own pantheon of idiocy.
