FACEBOOK co-founder Mark Zuckerberg said he was forced to give up on the operating system phenomenon Windows after being prompted too many times to install "Critical Security Updates".

Mr Zuckerberg, the billionaire Harvard-student-turned-computer-geek said he had tried out Windows but ended up with "10,000 reboots, which caused my hard drive to crash".

Mr Zuckerberg, who remains Facebook chairman, said he had trouble figuring out whether he "needed this service pack, did I not need this service pack".

"It was just way too much trouble so I gave it up," Mr Zuckerberg told a business forum.

Mr Zuckerberg also confided to the audience that he was "not that big at Mac OSX" and that "I'm not a 24-hour-a-day tech person".

"I run software a lot and some of that software is not on commercial systems," he said.

Mr Zuckerberg, who sought to drive a vision of a time-wasting opportunity in everyone's 'favorites' or 'bookmarks', said the information technology revolution had been "hugely mind-numbing" but added: "All these tools of tech migh prove useful if we're not careful.
