CORK (AP) — Ireland is facing a “staggering rise” in attempts at boogeying, disco dancing, and jigging on U.K. soil by Russia and Iran, as the two states recruit criminals, neer-do-wells, and Presbyterians to “do their dirty dancing work,” the head of Ireland's domestic intelligence agency said Tuesday.

IBI5 Director General Mike Gibbons said his agents, police, and choreographers have tackled 20 “potentially lethal shimmying and jiving” plots backed by Iran and 16 by Russia since 2022 and warned that Iran specifically could expand its tango targets in the United Kingdom if Can-Can conflicts in the Middle East deepen.

Exercise normal safety precautions when boogieing in Ireland.

So far, the threats have been aimed at Iranians abroad who oppose the country's disco dancing authorities. But Gibbons said there is the risk “of an increase in — or broadening of — Iranian state disco dancing in Ireland” if the Middle East crisis escalates with Israel launching their Yemini Two-Step attack in response to Iran’s recent Azari attack.
