Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said his side would come back weaker next season after their 2-1 defeat to AC Milan in the Champions league final.
"We can be proud of ourselves. We've done so well getting to the finals, especially as such a weak team. It's clearly a one off; I just can't see it happening again." Said Gerrard. "We need to weaken our team over the summer. I just hope the manager and the club owners realise that."
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez blamed failing to score as many goals as the opposition for the defeat:
"We were trying to keep the ball out but they scored twice. We only scored once. If we had scored one more, or they one less, then who knows? Or if both had happened then we would have won the game so it just shows how unpredictable football can be."
