Los Angeles, CALIFORNIA- Rob Smith, an officer of the LAPD, was recently suspended from his post for attempting to enforce copyright law.
Officer Smith caught wind of a speeding vehicle when patrolling. However, UnNews has learned that though the driver of the vehicle cooperated and pulled over, Officer Smith became suspicious when he heard the loud music still blaring out of the car's stereo.
The driver, who goes by the name of Tim, showed the officer copies of his license and registration, and even took a breath analyzer test for alcohol. However, when Officer Smith suggested that the music playing in Tim's car was from "one of them downloading sites", Tim replied he downloaded all his music from The Pirate Bay. It was here that Officer Smith arrested him for theft and possession of stolen property.
However, once Tim was escorted to the police station, the Chief laughed off all the charges and proceeded to release him. When Smith protested, he was suspended for a week.
Smith remains furious about the treatment he was given. "I was just doing my job! Pirated stuff IS stolen stuff, and the guy even admitted to the crime! I'm going to appeal this suspension all the way to the top if I have to!"
Legal experts say that Officer Smith is wasting his time, as it would take well over a week for any court to be able to address his complaint, by which time his suspension would be over anyway.
