Unfortunately that is as good as I can figure out how to do it without 4000 templates (or a wikicode hack with 4000 variables): 64^2 (to place exactly one king of each color on the board). I did limit pawns to rows 2-7 though. --Splaka 22:36, 16 Dec 2005 (UTC)

True, but it's much funnier to see two white kings in check and no black king at all, for example, than to only see a couple of pieces in strange positions. Thanks, Splaka! — Elembis 11:09, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
