Sample code[edit source]

I put the sample code thing in is it any good? ... -Wombo

I felt like it was too conventional to be amusing. Since Perl's messy syntax is one of its critics' biggest gripes, I added a block of syntax-highlighted obfuscated code (don't execute it). Attys 02:45, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

The Perl Wiki in Wikia[edit source]

Hello fellow Perl Uncyclopedians,

The simple truth is often funnier than anything that we can imagine. I'm currently involved in a very real global Perl project that parallels the original purpose for creating the Uncyclopedia. The issue that I'm dealing with is that of our free and open expression of Opinion, that as you all well know, like Humor, is not allowed to be freely and openly expressed within Wikipedia.

People need some good outlets for both their humor and their opinions, and that is why I'm starting a new Perl forum for the global Perl community to express their opinions at The Perl Wiki.

The global Perl community has a long history of having some fun with Perl, so I expect that you will continue to be visited by us, for the sake of good Perl humor, because I see the Uncyclopedia as part of the total solution that I'm trying to create.

If there are any Perl Uncyclopedians here who are also interested in my Perl Opinion project, please contact me at Wikia:c:Perl:User_talk:Ermeyers.

Thanks.

Actual Facts[edit source]

The article states that "It's obvious that PERL is a complete and total waste of time.". I feel that this comment belongs in wikipedia, and not uncyclopedia, because it is a fact.

O Rly?[edit source]

Does anyone fancy changing the publisher on the book cover from O'REILLY to O'RLY? and the graphic to an owl in similar style to the original camel? I'm not sure my drawing skills are up to it but it could be funny if done properly. Certes 22:33, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Yeah. Bring it to the Reefer Desk. --Qzekrom sig trans.gif This has been an automated message by Cute Zekrom (talk) 21:15, March 20, 2012 (UTC)
1. See the Reefer Desk
2. The joke is that Joe Camel is still a Camel, it's also not appropriate for children, the book is geared toward children and the real perl art is a camel. Thus it's funny. -- 02:04, March 23, 2012 (UTC)
You notice I underlined "Do It" in the new version? --Qzekrom sig trans.gif This has been an automated message by Cute Zekrom (talk) 19:53, March 23, 2012 (UTC)

"For starters" section[edit source]

I'm deleting this. It's not witty at all. It's barely even coherent. Attys 02:19, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

"In the beginning"[edit source]

I re-wrote this section from a programmer's perspective. The old one read like a shitty Mad Lib.

Is there a specific reason why it's not called "History"? Attys 02:42, June 5, 2011 (UTC)

Perl: It's just as bad as Lisp[edit source]

You can write "Just another Perl hacker," to the Command Line, by doing THIS!

print "Just another Perl hacker,";

or:

''=~('(?{'.('-)@.)@_*([]@!@/)(@)@-@),@(@@+@)'
^'][)@]`}`]()`@.@]@%[`}%[@`@!#@%[').',"})')

No, I'm serious. Wikipedia says so. --Qzekrom sig trans.gif This has been an automated message by Cute Zekrom (talk) 20:59, March 20, 2012 (UTC)
