Story[edit | edit source]

Pre-series: In an unstated time, a nature park consisting of a single island was made to hold animals from all across the world. During the creation of the nature park, a new element known as "sandstar" was discovered that turned animals into human-animal hybrids known as the titular kemono friends. Dr.kako and the researchers wanted to keep it a secret for fear of the world's discovery, but the world actually liked it and Thus "japari park" was created.

Youkosou Japari Park (manga): A caretaker named nana takes care of and Be(kemono)friends Ezo Red Fox . Yeah, thats about it. its just a slice of life series.

Kemono Friends (2015) / Youkosou Japari Park (Web Animation): Aliens resembling random objects (called Ceruleans... Cellians if you're a weeb), aliens created from the same sandstar that the Kemono friends are created from invade the park and whereas most people leave, the main protagonist travels with Mirai (a park guide) Serval, Caracal, White Rhino, Ruru/Lulu (a thompson's gazelle), Toki, Arai-san (a raccoon), Fennec, and various other gacha-animal-girls to save the park. Later on a cellian is created named "cellval" who becomes Friends with the cast and who helps to save the park.

Kemono Friends 1: A girl named Kabane wakes up in the Savannah area long after all human life has abandonded Japari Park. After meeting with a Serval Friend named Serval, the both of them explore the park in order to find the secrets of kaban's origins, only to end up saving japari park.

けものフレンズ 三: 日本語が話せません ごめんね Can you? Or are you one of us weeaboos who will spend years learning a language only to play entertainment? Don't worry, for while our reasons are stupid the only thing more stupid is our commitment. While it may seem stupid all you must do is push on and eventually you will meet your goal. がんばってね!!!!! (also theres a single english speaking girl, Calenda, a busty white chick who's learning japanese, who inserts random japanese words into her sentences and randomly switches to english in-game. The 日本人 see us and either 笑う with the force of several kamehamehas, or silently cheer us on. God Bless those Asians)

Lore[edit | edit source]

While japari park was originally created a a nature park before getting abruptly changed by the animals turning into girls due to sandstar; and later getting changed by ceruleans invading. There is a good amount of actual lore.

Sandstar, Ceruleum, and Sparkle[edit | edit source]

The park itself is filled with both Friends, made out of sandstar ", and Ceruleans, formed from ceruleum. Sandstar not only turns animals into friends but manages the environment of japari park, with areas ranging from savannahs to artic wastelands. Though the titular Friends themselves are the most intresting aspect of the world.

The sandstar in the titular Kemono Friends can interact with seemingly anything from animals to people. Even incomplete parts such as a strand of hair on a lost hat or the bones of an extinct animal can be turned into friends. Though alongside that sandstar is responsible for "thoughtforms" so to speak, or the UMA friends. Friends created from humanity's perception of things such as religion and mythology. From Cerberus to The japanese Goddess Oinari and Serpent Yamata-No-Orochi, to even the physical embodiment of halloween. Even for normal Friends, the fact that they are made out of Sandstar means that they are based off of humanity's perception more than anything, to the point where the Titular Kemono Friend's clothes and cognition becomes less developed the further they are from humanity. It must be noted though that due to existing off of sandstar, friends cannot leave without reverting back into their animal forms. (something that can also happen when they get severely injured or attacked by a cerulean.) and while it is possible for an animal to become a friend twice, when they "die" they lose all of their memories as a friend.

Ceruleum (added in The season who's name shall not be named) comes from the same volcanos that sandstar comess from and is responsible for the creation of Ceruleans, which can mimic both inanimate objects as well as living people. Two major examples being Cellval and (to avoid spoilers) the "big bad" of the nexon game. The latter of which steals (one of the human character's) Sparkle.

Sparkle in Kemono Friends is, for lack of a better term a persons hopes, dreams, optimism, and the like. Humans and friends can survive without it but they become depressed.

UMA Friends[edit | edit source]

Certain Friends are mythological beings brought alive through sandstar, varying from Japanese Mythological beings (Inugami-Gyobu, Tsuchinoko, Yamata-No-Orochi, etc), Chinese Mythological beings (Using the japanese names of the Four Gods: Genbu, Byakko, Seiryu, and Suzaku) Fictional characters (Peach Panther), and more.

Uma Friends sometimes (mainly the Four Gods, Kirin, and Yatagarasu) are vastly more powerful then Normal friends to the point where they're interaction can change the fate of Japari Park itself.

Park Caretakers & Staff[edit | edit source]

Due to Japari park being a nature park there are many staff that work across the park, the job of caretakers like Nana is to help friends adapt to human life. From things like how money works to how buisinesses and jobs work. Park guides like Mirai are self explanatory, they guide friends around the park.

Kemonoplasm[edit | edit source]

Depending on whether the friend comes from a living animal (85% Flesh 15% kemonoplasm), Extinct animal (50% flesh vs 50% sandstar), or an UMA (100% sandstar) the kemonoplasm that their bodies are made out of can vary. Kemonoplasm being an element that, depending on the friend's cognition can allow certain body parts (just Ears and Tails) to dissapear somewhat at-will. The Friend's clothes are made out of sandstar too, with their tails phasing through the clothes unless they are aware of the fact that they are wearing clothes and don't just have fur. (In which case the tail interacts with their clothes realistically. IE: Raising skirts.) Though similarly to fur it is possible for Friend's clothes to slowly grow from their bodies should they lose them. (No I'm not kidding. Season 1 Episode 12. Heavy spoilers if you skip directly to it but look at one of the main character's hands.)

Due to Kemonoplasm consisting of their bodies, it is theoretically possible to, with enough mental manipulation to cause a phenomenon known as "kemonoplasm melt" wherein due to deteriorating mental state the friend's body has trouble holding it's integrity and thus melts apart, sans for the Flesh part of their bodies which still stay intact. In case of living friends like Serval their ears and tail melt into sandstar before slowly regrowing. In cases of UMA friends like Oinari-sama their bodies disappear both during and after they have finished melting, and in case of extinct friend's like Woolly mammoth, they permanently die after completely melting, leaving only behind their "flesh" parts, and the object that they were before they became a friend, with even that slowly melting away. This is similar to how Human Friends (don't search up if you don't want to be spoiled), if they lose their will to live will will instantaneously dissapear.

Friends Themselves[edit | edit source]

Despite Friend's mostly Human bodies alongside aforementioned human organs which can persist even after their death in some circumstances. Friends are still at their core, animals. As such japari park has created the titular "Love protocol" in "Love Stage Project 'kemono friends' " in which friends are sterlized in order to prevent possible births from heat or interactions with male visitors. This excludes extinct friends, which most of that entry focuses on. As such the proposed "sterilization" scenes that would take place live were scrapped from the final project, much to fan dismay and anger on FutabaChannel before the /け ( けものフレンズ / kemono furenzu) board was nuked. After which conversation would move to community ran discord servers wherein the leaked scenes were spread around the fandom.

Friendification:[edit | edit source]

Upon excessive amounts of exposure to friends, "friendification" occurs, a phenomenon wherein the human's body starts consisting of more sandstar as time goes on. As such it is heavily recommended that caretakers have "shifts" both on and off japari park, as too much exposure not only leads to them not being able to leave the park for aforementioned reasons (Sandstar melt) but also another phenomenon known as "sandstar bleed" wherein the now ex-human takes on more traits of the friends that they're around, starting with hair color. As time goes on the victim's cognition / mental state is slowly "overwritten" with that of the original friend that they're receiving the traits from. And as every part of the victim changes, from organs (EX: Tail, Loss of organs in cases like australian devil, major gender changes if victim is male), to skin color, temperament, and even memories, the changes become harder and harder to revert. By the time 50% of the memories were changed, the Friendification is permament.

Japari Experiments[edit | edit source]

One of the least covered parts of Kemono Friends canon is the various (though unnamed) experiments that involve the various elements of the park. Because of this i will be referring to them as "Japari Experiments". The earliest of these is a series of physical aptitude tests done by mirai in chapter 3 of "Youkoso Japari Park" (Manga). During which the sheer durability and speed of serval compared to koala is shown. With the average friend being able to lift a 300 kilogram (661.4 pounds) rock, with other experiments such as speed and mountain climbing being shown, to which serval displays comical levels of strength. Another one of these experiments would be the Titular Japari Park Pavilion of "Kemono Friends Pavilion", a Pavilion which allowed viewers to observe normal animals. Its data was lost but through playing the game the data was slowly restored. Though the question of the Type-3 lucky beasts which have only appeared in Pavilion has not been currently answered and likely will not for the foreseeable future.

The effect of Hyena's fully powered Kemono Miracle on Japari Park. (This Image is only used to represent, and it not literal.)

Despite this, the various information that was mentioned earlier in this lore section was not discovered lightly, but instead through extensive experimentation, most of which is only referenced to in order to preserve the lighthearted feel of the franchise, one of these would be the state of Japari Buns / Japari Manjuu. While they have no effect on humans and human friends, they have a heavy effect on the friends, keeping them docile due to the extensive power that they can exhibit. Ranging from samson levels of physical strength in cases like Gennan Yak to the friends manipulating the sandstar around them to create magical, unexplainable yet very dangerous phenomenon in cases like Striated Caracara. The embodiment of this would be Hyena. While her special "Kemono Miracle" attack cannot be taken seriously with it's small located explosion on a single (cerulean) enemy, it is only due to the various compounds put into the Japari buns that greatly limits the explosion's radius. without which... Well... the event is only ever referred to in passing. But to say that it was a... event in japari park canon would be... lets just move on from this.

The effects of the Japari buns have a bad effect on the friends though, because of the compounds put in them the friends can sometimes get very excited and break into song as shown with the "Japariman Rap" in the first Kemono Friends Stageplay. However, Japari bun withdrawl has increasingly harmful effects on the friends. And while full withdrawl is never shown in the show all it takes is to see the Hyper version of the Japariman rap in Kemono Friends Stageplay 2 to see the quickly decreasing mental state of withdrawl as the friends (mainly Silver Fox & Ezo Red Fox) sing to the point of near complete exhaustion, with audible shortness of breath easily heard during its singing. And with how fast they're singing it's clear that something is in the buns, whether it's a gram of cocaine or something much more sinister I will pray for the safe arrival of the friends from whatever situation they may be in.

However, one sign of the true depravity of the Japari Experiments is one of the most recurring characters in the franchise, Arai-San / Common Raccoon who, despite being a fully grown adult is known for her extremely childish behavior and the repeated use of "Nanoda!" as a phrase.

Regarding Arai-san. She was already dull compared to the other friends in the series. Even in Youkoso Japari Park (manga) her plans are usually non-sensical. From asking nana for 1 Trillion yen (6,349,410$ as of 5/29/2024) to wanting to become the director of japari park and give everyone drinks that are a mix of Honey, Meat Buns, and Koala Pap. However even compared to that version the Arai-sans in other parts of the series, even the original nexon game which comes right after it on the timeline have shockingly lower intelligence then their previous version. Something only seen with Ezo Red Fox between Youkoso Japari Park (manga) and season 1 of the show. (Note: while red panda could possibly count. Her EX form is far too different to count. Being more of its own person as opposed to a mere copy.) As shown with Serval's Reactions to Mirai's recordings in season 1, it is possible for faint aspects of one friend's life to bleed into the next iterations who knows how far away. So what in jiminy cricket had to have happen for that sheer level of degeneration to happen to a single friend. And this is one of few details that the franchise doesn't at all even try to agknowledge despite the fact that is there. Could it be mental degradation as a protection mechanism from unholy levels of trauma, a special element of sandstar that brings a friend's intelligence closer to their original animal form's while not entirely retarding them. And this nightmare is just kept plain open to interpretation.

They cant keep on doing this.[edit | edit source]

This entire article has been a love letter to this franchise. Throughout my small time enjoying this franchise I have seen the peaks and the abysses. From the series being made with love to it's current state as just another shameless money maker that uses blatently underaged girls to get money from fully grown men who are just some of the many suffering from the male loneliness epidemic.

The lore in this franchise is actually deep. with it being clear that someone on the production team had a vision that they wanted to accomplish. But whether through ineptitude or malice it all reverts to the same status quo every single time.

Kaban goes to discover more of the park after saving one of the regions only for the very next entry to be a targeted character assasination by directors who had a vandetta against the old team. All of the lore and details built up in the background simply get wiped clean from the slate to simply revert back to. "Owh Nwo! The Cewwuweans are wunting down the fwends and want to stweal theiw swandstwar." With characters who get built up and change, only to go back to their status quo as soon as that specific part of the series ends.

Even the whole idea of "Generations" (an idea that ideally would allow the same idea of a friend to be used in various different ways. As seen with some of the EX friends) is just a completely phoned-in element of the setting meant to retroactively explain why the same friend can appear in different places at different times. Heck even the freaking image that introduces the idea to the franchise pretends to have serval designed in multiple different ways despite the fact that they are literally just different drawings by different artists. Even a main lore element is just shoehorned in for the sake of keeping constancy that the creators never even cared ablut,

In Youkoso Japari Park serval (gen 1) was just a Happy go lucky girl that spent time with Nana and Ezo Red Fox. Nothing else. In the Nexon Game (Gen 2) she's just the same girl but plain retarded but wouldn't you know everything that happened previously is just plain Ret-Gonned from the time line to return back to a CLEAN SLATE. Well ok..ok Youkoso Japari Park was made after the nexon game, only predating it in the timeline. But my point still stands.

When season 1 came around she was returned back to A CLEAN SLATE. But this one was actually ok because even if it was a kids show it still gave enough depth to the character through her caring for Kaban, her reacting to recordings that would have came from the nexon game (Actually showing a sense of time in the series for once. and one that would interest new fans in the past while letting older fans know that the nexon game wasn't completely forgotten.) Lore elements like the 4 Gods (even if they are only mentioned) showing up, and the ending clearly showing that more things are planned. showing that the adventure would continue.

Only for the team that made Season 1 and saved the franchise to be fired due to corporate greed wanting to extract more money from the franchise. Afterwards Serval was yet again be made into a clean slate in KF2. And not only that but between the various plot threads that don't get any resolution, the explicit killing off of a friend (amur tiger) AKA: the only case in the whole franchise of a permanent death. Dog suffering for no point, etc. Yup, the directors of the second season just threw a wrench into everything, torched the franchise, and ran. Heck literally everything afterwards was a prequel. KF3 and Kingdom take place before and KF Kingdom is just a simple gacha game while 3 is a japanese only game. Yeah.

Serval is the mascot and her constant "status quo is god" treatment of representative of the entire franchise as a whole. A constant build up and destruction. A build up and destruction. A build up and destruction as the committee that makes the franchise repeats the beginning and the end ad infinitum until it stops making money to which it is unceremoniously killed off one final time as a middle finger to the final fans who stuck it to that point.

there is always another child who wakes up and wants to figure out about their past. like every crappy series Kemono Friends takes one Idea and repeats it without understanding what lead the original to be good. Kaban, while wanting to find her past was mostly a blank slate and slowly grew to love the friends and protect them while still not giving up on her dream of figuring out exactly what happened, at the same time her resourcefulness and how she would solve each problem in its own way would keep each episode intresting. Kyururu starts off with a set goal, that is finding his home, but ends up abruptly ditching it in the end. He solves every issue with drawings in a way that quickly becomes stale despite the fact that with his resources and bag he could do many more things (Drawing something to scare away ceruleans, Using the crayons and paper in his bag as resources such as burning them or paper airplanes, or even just storing items in his bag which is done around episode 3)

And Jinri. Yeah... I don't know the full plot of kingdom, but she doesn't even have a Gimmick to her. The poor excuse for a plot is just -> Go to area -> Chevrotain is being an insufferable crybaby as always -> Weasel nearly gets herself killed due to her permanent short-term thinking (i freaking swear, sooner or later she's just going to set fire to her hair, poke a stick at a grizzly bear, eat medicine that's out of date and use her private parts as piranha bait) -> they meet a random friend -> Jinri does something??? -> They move to the next area.

Do the fans even care anymore, Do I even care, Do the creators even care. For something that has so much potential it dropped faster than the student population after the quiet kid texted to his friend "Don't come to school tomorrow". Like a child actor getting into drugs and hedonism as a way to substitute for their lost years of purity, like the guy who cures cancer being unfortunate enough to have been the child of an onlyfans thot and thus be aborted before he even had a chance, like a jewish child getting sent to au-

You know what, SCREW THIS. I'm getting irrationally angry and using crazy analogies to basically represent "They had all the potential in the world but it all resulted in nothing but shattered dreams of what could have been."

I don't even want every anime to be this gigantic, 10 years at least, masterpiece that causes me to rethink how i live. I just want them to live up to the smallest amount of standards. And this is every anime as a whole. I don't even like them for what they are, I like them for what they could be. They draw you in with a unique world, characters, lore, before quickly turning into a homogenized mess as it becomes the same as the previous sheol of a franchise you ran away from. The lore becomes second thought, the comedy becomes self-referential into oblivion, the characters all turn into the same girl in a different outfit, the designs become AI-Generated levels of bland, and almost like a porn addict you end up hating yourself in the end. Asking why you started it to begin with when you know how it will end.

Why do I even have to live in this world to begin with. I just use fiction as an escape from this world that I live in but I myself am stuck in this endless cycle of finding new stuff to autistically obsess over only to see it rot into a shell of its former self. Everything with even a slight amount of good has to be mercilessly rended limb from limb in a greedy bit to satisfy the hunger of a devouring leviathan whose hunger will NEVER be satisfied until even existance itself is turned into gem on their throne of properties and media stretching up into the heavens itself in an endless luciferian bid to be as high as god himself, ruling over all.

Or maybe I'm the problem. And the only solution to this is to just become numb. Admit that nothing can be enjoyed. Hayao miyazaki hated anime because of its wasted potential and it being turned into something "made for people who hate interacting with other people" Everything is made with slave labor and...

I'm Done... no words can ever describe how i feel.

The season who's name shall not be named (2019)[edit | edit source]

A japanese Billboard ad shown 3 days before the series's airing on NHK TV on January 14th 2019

Let me be frank with you here, the fact that... the true abomination... the eclipse which clouds the skies, bringing even the bravest individuals to their knees... the fact that Kemono Friends 2 was allowed to exist in this world to begin with is neither tanoshii, nor sugoi.

It's existence came at the cost of season 1's planned sequel, the Actual kemono friends 2. And alongside that the anime was so disastrous towards the series that the later part of the timeline was completely scrapped. You wanted more of Kaban. Kyururu, Caracal, and serval's adventures? Fuck you now get ready for the next mainline part of the series to be a japanese only gacha game where you, the captain travel around with Dhole, Meerkat, and to fucking add insult to injury common dolphin. The exact friend shown (or rather heard) at the end of season 1

Even if you are one of the few tasteless individuals to have liked even the smallest bit of the new season, whether you believed that domestic dog deserved better, or that the manga is good, or that sexy tiger-sama I mean amur tiger is a good character, you must admit that similar to the 1945 bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, The season who's name shall not be named should have never been allowed to be formulated.

Even stating its name is a bad omen towards anyone unfortunate enough to remember the rest of the series before that. Kyururu was so hated that the japanese fans even created a gender-swapped version of him named Tomoe-chan exactly to replace him.

No words can never be thought of to exactly describe the events. Directors attacked fans, fans attacked directors, even hentai artists outdid the 12 episodes worth of writing in a couple pages.

Kyururu, the first of the fallen rebelled against kaban's order and was cast into the depths of sheol for his trangressions.

Serval, the second and kaban's second-in-command quickly followed, tempting the first fan into watching 4 hours of unfinished plot threads, lore retcons, and a dog getting emotionally tortured.

Caracal was the dark cloud that eclipsed all of japari park, with few being able to escape. Some prayed deeply for gods which retreated back into the heavens for fear of watching their handiwork being destroyed. Some fought futilely against their incoming fate, and others decided to end it all on their own terms.

The best kinds of media are the ones that make you feel. The ones that can make you feel like a king in one moment, and yet destroy you the next. It was only 12 episodes, but kemono friends 2 taught me pain; it taught me death; it taught me what it was like to see a franchise that you love be struck with a degenerative disease and only have but 12 brutal days yet to live.

It shown me the kind of pain that the likes of Saya no Uta, Attack on Titan, Muv-Luv Alternative, You & Me & Her, Fear and Hunger II: Termina, and even LiveLeak could only dream of. and for that. it truly was. The best show ever made.
