Article review =[edit source]

I'd like to say (to any of my fellow fucked up species) that this article is a straight 10 out of 10, its amazing, well done =]

To whom it may concern (and also to those who don't give a shit whatsoever),

I have recently read your fine article about guitars and the howto: there of. I found it immensely helpful as I indeed did have a piece of 13th Century English Architecture and was trying to play it. How silly of me. Regardless, thanks to you I have thrown away that "Basilica of Mary Magdalene" as it is truely useless for rad guitar shredding. Also, I'm going to nom this as soon as people arn't sick of Howto's on VFH, and then delete this talk page so it looks like I never wrote this letter forshadowing my grand plan. That is all, good day.

Ps. I think it's vfh worthy, right?

It was nommed at one point. I think about three people voted on it. Then I put it on Pee Revew and nowt happened. -- Hindleyite 17:18, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Quick, someone nom this now so I can keep up with Hardwick at the VFH Hall of Shame! -- Hindleyite 18:46, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm nomming it this time and you can't stop me. Well you can, but that would be ill-advised. --Anyone 20:54, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Before I read Rc's plaintive cry for help on the Forum, I would have probably voted for this just because it's Hindelyite - but now I am compelled to vote with my conscience. I reckon it's still too loose for the front page, but could be great. One direction to take it is to really push the angle you have that learning the guitar is really all about the clothes, walk, stance etc... make it everything *but* the guitar. Also, mention something like: "Some of the so called greats had difficulty with the guitar even after they got famous. Jimi Hendrix, for example, used to get so frustrated with a difficult chord change that he would just smash the guitar to pieces on the stage and walk off". Oh, and make the Gibson be invented by Mel Gibson - specially for drunks to play. Kind of universalise it and bring in other angles. I'd have a go at it myself once I get the time... --Sir Hardwick Fundlebuggy (Bleat) 12:02, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

Darn that Rc and his clamping down on article whoring... cheers for the advice. -- Hindleyite 18:10, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

From Pee Review[edit source]

OK, someone nommed this for VFH, so it must be some good, at least. However it was voted down fairly quickly. It would be great if someone could tell us where we are going wrong, doing well etc. Cheers. --Hindleyite | PL | GUN | WOTM | Image Review - Use it | Converse 13:42, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

I can't say anything but that it's a really *good* article, I voted For, and I don't see what could be improved. --Icons-flag-us.png SonicChao Babbel!Contribs 16:10, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Overheard during a serious discussion on brass versus bone versus synthetic nuts: "Say, I wonder what kind of nuts Joni Mitchell has?"

Anyway. Now for some of my usual dumbass flabber-blabber. "There exist" is a weak beginning: it's passive, not active.

There exist many guides which aid the beginner in learning the guitar. However the quality of these is questionable, mainly because they assume that people will read through endless pages of scales and other such theory.

Many guides claim to teach beginners how to play guitar. They don't work -- because they assume that people will read through endless pages of scales, time signatures, clefs, fingering charts, music theory, and other useless rubbage.

I feel the second version is stronger (you may disagree, of course). According to great writers like Maury Povich and David Bowie one should avoid passive language: It is boring to me should be It bores me and so forth. But you knew that already, I think. ~shrugs~ If you adapt any part of the revision I suggested, by all means do so. Or not. Good luck...nice article.----OEJ 03:11, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I actually agree with you on this and will change it immediately, as I understand just how important the opening paragraph is in 'roping people into' the article. However the article was originally supposed to address the subject in a serious, formal manner, with the humour arising from some of the the stupid suggestions it makes. But I think you're right on this. I am open to suggestions and changes, and anything which might help the article, please feel free to add. --Hindleyite | PL | GUN | WOTM | Image Review - Use it | Converse 10:14, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I understand the desire to make the piece sound serious; that's cool. In that case you might replace the word 'rubbage' with something more dignified -- 'rubbage' just sounds comical no matter what. But I tenatively suggest that serious factual writing should not abuse the passive voice. It's not just my orphaned and lonely opinion; look here for instance, and here. But of course you will choose the style and diction best suited to your piece. ----OEJ 23:31, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Re-visited[edit source]

Since the above, the article has been expanded somewhat. Any comments etc? -- Hindleyite 20:41, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

I knew somebody'd put BCRich in the 'how to know it's a knock-off' section...but I didn't want to put it seeing that i own one... ResidentEthel19:11, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
