Welcome![edit source]

Hello, Fireplug, and welcome to Uncyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If not, the door's right over there... no, a little more to your left... yeah. Anyway, here are a few good links for people like you:

If you read anything at all, make it the above three links. If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia or need more help with something, try these:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being an Uncyclopedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button (Button sig.png) above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date.

At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:Fireplug/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.

If you want to write and don't know where to begin, consider contributing to Uncyclopedia's current colonization of the week, a group writing project to improve a single popular article. Anyone is welcome to contribute, so come help out!

If the current colonization doesn't suit your fancy, then browse our rewrite and idea categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!

If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply leave a message on an adopter's talkpage to join. Again, welcome!  --EMC [TALK] 07:09 Oct 26 2009

From Radiohead[edit source]

Hey Fireplug,

I read what you had to say on Radiohead's talk page. I thought I'd respond on your Talk page because this issue is larger than Radiohead.

You say, "contributors and editors have no idea what funny is". Are you saying that you do? If so, you're deluding yourself. Funny is subjective. One man's ROFL will not move another. Most types of humour are tolerated around here, with one exception:

Uncyclopedia can be edited by anyone. Yes, that means that pre-teens and hordes of semi-literate people have access to it. At their best, these folk write long, poorly-spelled and uncapitalized paragraphs in textspeak about random historical and fictional characters. At their worst, they are just vandals. It is the great force of entropy in Uncyclopedia called "randomness". These edits are occurring constantly, and for the burdened volunteers who keep these forces at bay, it becomes a siege mentality. Sometimes volunteers skim articles and delete changes without giving them a chance. The best way to deal with that is to write to that admin and ask politely if you can have your edits back: you're working on the article. To them, that's a sign that you at least care about what you're doing.

Other than this, sometimes people take your statement "contributors and editors have no idea what funny is" and become the humour police. These people skim articles and when they "don't get it", they move them off to VFD. Very often, they "don't get it" because they have no understanding of the subject. I myself have had a couple of articles moved there because of this. I saved them from deletion by, once again, politely asking an admin to bring them back.

In reference to Radiohead, it was not written by committee. I wrote it. As the original author, I also watch over it and make sure it stays to my standard of humour and continuity. Many mediocre edits to an article make it suck, so I revert the ones I don't like. As you can see on the Talk page, Radiohead is a divisive article, so many people disagree with what I do. They've gone on to make their own Radiohead-related articles and nobody has stopped them.

So yes, based on historical data, you will get reverted if you edit Radiohead. Not all articles are like this. You too can create your own patch of heaven by writing something that's not random. Write your own article if you want. It doesn't have to be hilarious, it just has to not be written in leet, textspeak, or be a random adventure that is, like, "chuck norrises parents were genghis khan and chewbacca but they put him in a basket and floated him down the river he got adopted by neville chamberlain who had buttsecks with him lol". Work on it and make it maybe 3/4 of a page long. Add pictures. Put love in it, defend it from the occasional philistine and a small part of the internet will be eternally yours.

You think you know what funny is? Prove it. YouFang 20:27, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe I don't know what funny is. All I meant is that I'm not the guy that would do the "chuck norris had sex with chewbacca and then wrote the bible etc. etc." I wouldn't do that.--Fireplug 07:31, October 27, 2009 (UTC)fireplug
