You manage to fire your disco-rave-telescope and the grue is destroyed by the light, the epilepsy, and the sheer awesomeness emitted by the weapon.

You do, and you walk through the room filled with human remains and open the door to Budgie's lair. He doesn't seem to notice you (maybe because this battle has been going on for so long that he forgot) which gives you the element of surprise.
