Aah! [laughter]

(Show starts with a little jingle, with a man sitting watching TV. His wife walks in.)

Meredith: Hello, John.

John: (continues staring at the TV)

Meredith: John.

John: ...

Meredith: JOHN!

John: Aah! (stares at Meredith with wide eyes, surprised)

[laughter]

Meredith: John, where were you today? You promised me that you'd meet me at the Eggnog Convention!

[laughter]

John: Oh my God, dear, I'm so sorry, it--it just slipped my mind--

Meredith: Nuh-uh-uh! Save it for later; you'll be making up for this with the 200 lbs. of eggnog I bought for you!

John: Oh...

[more laughter, oddball cheer from some guy]

John: You didn't.

Meredith: I did.

John: Nuh-uh.

Meredith: Uh-huh.

John: Nuh-uh.

Meredith: (shakes her hips) Mmmmmm-hm!

[cheers and applause from audience]

A Sitcom (short for situation comedy) is a type of television program that focuses on the dramaticized events of daily life. They often focus on one family's "adventures" and how they overcome the daily challenges that threaten their lives. These shows are often hilarious, as evidenced by the inordinate amounts of laughter from the live studio audience.

Sitcoms originated on the radio, though some argue that it originated in Ancient Greece with Homer's famous Sitcomos, which was based on the day-to-day life of the Greek Pantheon; focusing on such mundane tasks as making people fall in love every day, helping the Greeks win impossible battles, and of course making sure the Hellenes built temples for them that were as grand as their tastes. This show was unfortunately cancelled early due to Zeus' smiting of Homer.

Today they are almost exclusively found on television due to a general decrease in radio use. Unlike cartoons, they always maintain a status quo from episode to episode, which helps the longtime viewer keep track of what is happening while at the same time alienating new viewers. Except when they don't.

Commercial Break[edit | edit source]

The Grate Gatsby[edit | edit source]

(It's about 8:55 AM, and Travon is heading to class when the school bully, Dennis comes up)

Dennis: Hey, nerd! (goes over to Travon) Did you do that English essay?

Travon: Yeah. What's it to ya?

Dennis: Gimme it! (grabs Travon's essay)

Travon: Hey! Give that back! (tries in vain to get his essay back from the bullies)

Bully A: Hey Dennis, look. He didn't put his name on it!

[Oh! Ooooh!] (Travon stares in horror as he, in fact, had not put his name on his essay)

Bully B: Yeah, dude! You should, like, totally out your name on it so you can get credit!

Travon: Nooo! (Grabs essay, but trips and falls onto a small grate, the paper slipping through the bars into the abyss)

[Gasp!] (The crowd gasps in horror as the bell rings, and Travon is left with no essay)

Travon in Trouble[edit | edit source]

(Travon dejectedly walks into class and sits down)

Mrs. Finkle: Okay, class, take out your essays and pass them to the front.

(Everyone does so except for Travon, who sits there awkwardly)

Mrs. Finkle: Travon? Where's your essay?

Dennis: Yeah, nerd! Where's your essay!

(The class laughs)

Travon:...Actually, ma'am, ah had it this mornin', but...uh...

(He looks at Dennis, who looks back threateningly)

Mrs. Finkle: Well?

Travon:...Nuthin'. Ah jus' didn't do it, ma'am.

(Dennis smirks and leans back in his chair)

Mrs. Finkle: Travon, that's so...out of character. Normally you're really good about your assignments. I'm sorry, but I have to give you an F. Please see me after class.

[audience oooohs]

After Class[edit | edit source]
