Looking classy, ready for a night out in a Caesar toga

A toga party is a party at which the guests wear togas, or garments resembling same. Generally, the wearing of the garment is the raison d'être for the party. Toga parties were first brought to the public eye in the reality show Caligula.

Thereafter, toga parties began springing up worldwide, e.g.:

  • college fraternity parties, where paradoxically the guests wear togas rather than Greek skirts
  • block-parties in Rome, where they do justice to the expression: "When in Rome, do as the Romans did."
  • meetings of the Esperanto League, where they plot strategy to have their dialect of Pig Latin become the world's only tongue
