Nancy Drew[edit source]

Have to admit, I was a bit surprised that we didn't have one survive before,
given that this is Uncyclopedia and she's a pillar of American girlhood and all.

Humour: 8 *IntroA nice hook into the entire article. Nice use of feminist/sexist jokes. In particular the bit about "fertile ground for budding young females." This intro is also effective because it gets the reader (or at least me) into the type of language that will be used in the rest of the article.
  • A Digression Into The Trials and Travails of Edward Stratemeyer This is for me the weakest part of thee article. I just feel despite it not being too long of a section that it goes on too long. Please though keep the William Blake joke, that just so bullseye and I love it! However all things considered I feel this is about 4-5 sentences too long.
  • The Stratemeyer Syndicate The quotes really make this section come alive. Its a good transition into the rest of the article and where the insanity really begins but I like its sharpness and how it flowed. I'm going to include the sub-section/list you had about the standards and practices which made me really look at some of my favorite Hardy Boys and Boxcar Children books a bit differently. I'm starting to think they truly were gay.
  • Nancy Drew: Birth of A Nascent This kind of is a retread of both the intro paragraph and the previous section about the syndicate, regardless its well written. Though found it more amusing than funny until the little kicker at the end about her not being A Hardy Boy after all.
  • The Character Introduction into the other periods of her persona. I like how this starts however it may not be truly nessecary as the morphing of the character is kind of broken down by each period. I'm not saying to cut it out though as it truly is mean. And I say that as a high compliment.
  • The Early Years I like how this reflects the time period and how people would have felt about a snippy little girl like Nancy Drew going around talking to people the way she does. I'm a male so I didn't read much Nancy Drew but there was a big collection in my elementary school and I remember reading the older Nancy Drew titles and thinking that she was a little bit fresh at times. So this struck it home for me. The Extensive revision I'm not sure if I should categorize this under pictures or here in humor but let me just say that section may be the funniest in terms of laugh out loud humor in the entire article. It is spot on perfect and just really clever while giving the article a true feeling of authenticity.
  • (1980-2003) As a black man did I find this part racist? Yes, but in a very good satirical way. While this seems to be where the article becomes less about the real Nancy Drew and more about the possibilities of how she could have been used in an alternate universe it keeps the authenticity and provided me with some nice chuckles here and there. The use of the word "fellating" should always be encouraged, its just funny to read.
  • Spinoffs & Franchise Reboots I don't know if this was very funny to me until Girl Detective Jr. and the Spanish Nancy Drew with the added question at the end, but it makes sense to be here. Its not unfunny its just not quite as funny stacked up to the other sections.
  • Adaptations in other media I have never played the Nancy Drew video games nor seen the movie even though I was tempted to when I heard Bruce Willis was in it. Now I kind of want to play the video games just to see if I can pick up on some of the absurdity of it all. Or the hidden jokes to the more mature players. The excerpt from the promotional handout could have been easily fumbled but you handled it well and made it funny.
  • See Also Just the icing on the cake really, a great way to finish it all off loved the pictures of the books at the end. Adding in "The History of Women" was just one more great stab at the female gender. (In a comical way of course)
Concept: 7 Anybody could have made Nancy Drew, I mean like you said in your comment its amazing nobody has tackled this concept so as far as originality in concept goes I feel like I have to take off a few points there, but thats like nothing you can control. As far as capitalizing on the concept and making something that could have been a run of the mill article and made it something I'll remember for a while.
Prose and formatting: 10 Easily the strongest part of this article. Its so well formatted from beginning to end and the tone is just perfect for the route the article goes. As I said earlier right off the bat you draw me in and get me used to the prose of the article and then continue it without fail throughout. While at times it feels like two different people are writing it, the article never loses its tone and its sense of pacing and style. The font used was also a nice choice, I'm not sure why I like it, I just do.
Images: 10 I hope you dont think I'm going soft giving you a 10 on this but I honestly cannot find a bad picture in this entire article. Each one matches the section perfectly and just gives you this image/idea of what the particular book is about and they all look so authentic you have to laugh. In fact it was usually the images like the revised sections of the Nancy Drew books that made me laugh out loud. I don't know if you made these or just found them around or a mix of both but they were perfectly selected.
Miscellaneous: 9 You took something so standard and relatable as Nancy Drew and engulfed me into the article. I feel like after reading this you should do more articles like this. For example The Boxcar Children. Even people who never have read Nancy Drew know who she is and what she is about so what you have is a real gold mine for flipping the ideals of Drew on her head and creating this darkly brilliant and yet peppy rendition of her history. At times you may get a little too carried away but this is Uncyclopedia, isn't that the point?
Final Score: 44 This article is feature ready, you did a darn good job and you deserve all the credit in the world and I hope no idiots try to edit this article once it gets featured and I'm pretty sure that its not a "will it get featured" and more of a "when will it be featured" question. I am glad I decided to review this one, you are on a high level of game.
