The creators of hit ABC show Modern Family are set to respond to criticism that recent episode Connection Lost was one long, ghastly infomercial for Apple - by filming a follow-up episode showcasing all the irritating things about being an Apple user.

The main plotlines of the episode are as follows:

  • Gloria's Colombian sister attempts to use Jay's old hand-me-down MacBook which has the 10.5 operating system. Almost no webpage displays correctly, and she is unable to install any updates for the OS, Java, or Flash. The computer, which is 4 years old, is the newest and most expensive piece of equipment in her entire house.
  • Gloria takes her broken iPad to a Mac Store, is immediately attended by an employee, who directs her upstairs to another employee, who directs her to another, who is talking to a couple about their iPad, and after waiting 10 minutes, she is told she needs to book an appointment at the Genius Bar, and that there are no appointments available in the next five days.
  • Alex needs to download a statistical analysis program for a school project, but it is only compatible with Windows.
  • None of Luke's favorite games are available on the Mac either.
  • Claire notices that her charger wire has become frayed and dangerous-looking for the third time in three years, and it costs 80 bucks to replace.
  • Phil's 2012 MacBook was eligible for the free Mavericks upgrade, but was just a little too old, and now everything is running slow as hell, meaning he has to wipe the system and reinstall an older OS.
  • A running joke in the episode is that everyone's iPhone is running out of charge.
  • Haley wants to videochat to a friend on FaceTime, but unfortunately that person has dared to buy something that isn't made by Apple, and so it is impossible.
  • Manny is increasingly worried about the reality of how Apple's products are manufactured in China, and the sweatshop conditions employees have to work in.
  • Jay just can't get used to the close and minimize button being on the left-hand side, dammit.
