Whomever may be judging this, the "limerick", which is one I learned over 20 years ago was something that I was given without attribution. I just learned this morning that the limerick traces back to a fellow named Leigh Mercer (1893-1997), and showed up in a 1980 publication called Word Ways, v13 n1.
