Redaction

Redaction is the practice of hiding text in an article for any reason. Redaction can be performed in a number of contexts, such as:

  • Government situations, in which limited information is disclosed to the public
  • A text with otherwise benign text but with a few segments that contain sensitive material
  • A text with offensive words (for an example, see Uncyclopedia) which need to be hidden
  • Uncyclopedia articles in which the author is pretending to know anything about redaction

On Uncyclopedia, redaction is created with Template:C, and hovering over the redacted text with your mouse shows the text.

Methods of redaction[edit | edit source]

Redaction can be done through many ways. Some of these methods can easily be reversed, however, others are not so easily fixable.

Methods of redaction so easy any old idiot could do it[edit | edit source]

Using a pencil or pen[edit | edit source]

Using a pencil or pen is one of the simplest ways to perform a redaction. To redact a document using a pencil or pen, simply draw, scribble, or heavily shade over the part that you want to redact. However, such redactions could easily be removed by using tools like an eraser.

An alternative way to use a pencil or pen to redact is to make a hole in the paper that renders the text unreadable.

Spilling ink on the text[edit | edit source]

Another way to redact text is to spill ink on the text. Spilling ink on text generally makes all printed text look like this, and, therefore is a highly effective method of deleting text. Idiots like this one are naturals at spilling ink on various surfaces, such as donuts.

Slightly more civilized/difficult methods of redaction[edit | edit source]

Calligraphy pens[edit | edit source]

A more advanced and stylish method of redaction is using calligraphy pens. To use calligraphy pens, simply use the flat side of the pen to cover the text to be removed. Note by the editors: This method has been moved to “intermediate” because some of the users of this wiki — including the author — do not have enough cognitive ability to correctly use a pen.

Eating the paper[edit | edit source]

Another civilized method of properly removing text from a document is to eat it. To eat the paper, simply stuff it in your mouth and — you know what, enough said here.

Advanced methods[edit | edit source]

Bombs[edit | edit source]

The most advanced way to redact a document is to use a nuke. To nuke a document, place the document on top of a tall skyscraper, preferably in New York to maximize collateral damage (and annihilate Trump Tower). Then, using Scotch tape, attach a nuke to the bottom of your plane and fly it above the skyscraper. Since Scotch tape is only somewhat stronger than a thin strip of paper with a lead weight attached to the bottom, your nuke should drop onto the building and create a nice mushroom cloud. Note by the editors: the author of this article neglected to mention that you may be annihilated in the process.
