Jet Set Radio
Jet Set Radio (aka Jet Grind Radio: The one that came before Jet Set Radio Future) is a videogame for the Sega Dreamcast released in 2000 that is a 3D Platformer masquerading as a roller skating game with an amazing soundtrack. The game follows the GGs a bunch of delinquent teenagers that call themselves a gang but only really commit vandalism and they probably just ran away from home while going through a phase.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
The gameplay has you skating around, picking up spray cans, spraying graffiti and dealing with a horrible camera system while being pursued by police. You can grind on rails by jumping onto them. If you jump while going fast enough you will do a trick. Spraying graffiti other than the smallest kind will have you enter a quick time event but good luck completing them before getting interrupted by being attacked by police.

The story starts in the Japanese the city of Tokyo-To with DJ Professor K a crazy person who runs a pirate radio station named Jet Set Radio explaining that the Rokkaku Corporation has bought out the police force and that they are working on the "21st Century Project" a plan by Goji Rokkaku, massive Nickelback fan and owner of the Rokkaku Corporation (who went off his medication) to get rid of the world's teenagers.
We then see the protagonist Beat a delusional teenager capable of using magical spray paint who is constantly listening to Hot Freaks has just run away from home due to failing grades and wants to start a gang. He recruits fellow magic spray paint users Gum and Tab into the gang after passing some extremely basic tests. They then proceed to engage in a turf war with the rival gangs Poison Jam who are all Fall Out Boy fans, the Love Shockers who are Justin Bieber fans, and the Noise Tanks who are Daft Punk fans. The turf war started over who got to adopt the dog Pots with him currently with the GGs, while the police captain Onishima deploys tanks, helicopters, and weaponized Nickelback music to stop them from committing vandalism, all of which are unsuccessful. Along the way Pots is kidnapped by the Noise Tanks .All the while the GGs are joined by other magic spray paint users in the turf war culminating in them murdering the members of the other gangs by magic spray paint. After defeating the Noise Tanks the GGs rescue Pots but he has been turned into a cyborg that constantly plays Daft Punk.
The members of the other gangs they defeated dropped parts of the a cursed Nickelback record said to be powerful enough to summon a demon which Goji plans to do. After this two teenagers somehow fly from Chicago to Tokyo-To seeking to join the GGs, Cube the generic emo kid and Combo the dude with a boombox. Combo and Cube succeed in joining the GGs and explain that their friend Coin was killed by the Golden Rhinos, a branch of the Rokkaku Corporation for not paying them for the cocaine along with all of his Green Day records being destroyed and Coin's piece of the cursed Nickelback record. The GGs territory is taken over by the Golden Rhinos because the GGs are too busy sitting on their asses.
After the GGs take back their territory from the Golden Rhinos Rokkaku takes the Nickelback record and uses it to perform the demon summoning ritual. He is attacked by the GGs in the middle of the tower sending his Chad Kroeger robots to deal with them. This is obviously unsuccessful and the GGs kill him in cold blood by breaking the glass protecting Rokkaku and throwing him off the tower. It is later revealed by DJ K that the ritual failed because Goji accidently mixed up the records and used Devil's Contract which requires a different ritual to be successful. A few months later the GGs have split up and Combo and Cube have to stay in Japan because they can't afford plane tickets back to Chicago.

An absolute douchebag who is always wearing headphones and leads the GGs. He is actually the son of Goji Rokkaku and decided to run away from home after Goji got drunk and started assaulting him.
Gum[edit | edit source]
Does basically nothing besides being one of the first members of the GGs. She decided to run away from home for unknown reasons and takes over the GGs after most of the members leave. As her name implies, she is banned from Singapore.
Tab AKA Corn AKA Cone[edit | edit source]
Does nothing besides join GGs and has weird hat and builds electronics in his spare time. Legend has it that no-one has seen his hair.
Combo[edit | edit source]
Dude with jukebox and fancy hat. Somehow afforded to fly from Chicago to Tokyo-To to investigate the mysterious mercenaries that attacked and killed his friend Coin.

Shirtless Bald dude who lives in the sewers and killed Sonic the Hedgehog's child and wears their skull as a necklace.

Random person with headphones who does nothing.

Combo's friend and generic emo kid who somehow also afforded to fly from Chicago to Tokyo-To.

A bunch of dudes at Sega were bored of making fantasy crap like Panzer Dragoon and decided to make a game taking place in modern day Japan that centered around youth culture. For the American release they butchered the soundtrack and decided to make two absolutely crap levels exclusively for this release which include garbage songs like Dragula. They then decided to add the crappy stuff from the american release into the japanese release with De La Jet Set Radio.
