Avatar the Last Airbender is a wonderful adaptive story telling using the four elements as the basis of their magical world. I have watched the series with antcipation and joy and it was with a great and heavy heart when the series came to an end.
A friend of mine recently informed me, however, that Avatar was not ending and that M. Night Shyamalan was both directing and adapting "The Last Airbender" to a live action movie! Excited by the news, I could hardly wait to discover it was true myself and yet as I looked into the matter further I started to realize something very strange and odd between M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" and James Cameron's "Avatar." And as I researched further the similarities between the two movies astounded me.
1)One of the strangest controversy about the two movies was when I discovered two competitors were competing for exclusive rights to own the title "Avatar." What was even more interesting was the fact that after James Cameron registered his movie title "Avatar" with Fox, M. Night Shyamalan registered his movie title "Avatar, the last airbender" with paramount mere hours later.

To summarize, the article states that "Other than sharing the same name, there is no connection between the two films." Yet, I beg to differ for two additional reasons, both profound and shocking.
2)To begin, both films are hinting heavily on using the theme of water one way or another. In a AOL movie clip titled: Avatar Movie Interview with M. Night Shyamalan. M. Night states that "The Last Airbender" is a story about "water."

Now in James Cameron's movie "Avatar" one of or the main character is depicted as looking aquatic: "That shapely blue girl looked a whole lot more aquatic." (source Market Saw)

3) Finally, another observation that I have noticed about the two upcoming movies. Both movies are using two major mythological themes:
As you probably already know, the last airbender uses mythological themes taken from the Hinduism and the Buddhism religion, while James Cameron's upcoming movie is using the Greek mythological theme of Pandora.
So, as for claiming there is no similiarities between the two up-coming movies I'd say there are more similiarities between the two than we had first imagined. Is it simply a coincidence? Or is there perhaps something more there than either of them would like to admit? After all, one coincidence can be surmised as simply a coincidence. Yet, as I have shown through my argument, I have illustrated, not one, but three coincidences between the two movies. And as the old cliche in baseball goes: three strikes and your out!
What I am wondering, if there is a similiaritly of ideas being interchanged, was it pre-planned or is this just another publicity stunt? Or is there something else that these two producers are not telling us?
