The prospector notices that the coins are worthless. Rather than getting angry, he apologises for descending into a stereotype, and assures you that he is no longer temporarily insane.
"I've got something that may be useful to you", he says.
He fumbles around in his pockets and pulls out a stone. "Here", he says "take this. It is a light stone." Your eyes nearly pop out! A light stone could be socketed into your sword, to get a grue-killing weapon!
The prospector gives you some ointment for your wounds.

You apply the ointment. You feel it heal your wounds. The prospector takes it back.

You now have a grue-killing weapon. The prospector has entered his cabin.
