Phil Brown (fake tanned singer, life coach, football manager, born 1980)[edit | edit source]

Philip "Phil" Brown (born 30 May 1980 in Venice Beach, California) is an English former footballer and the former manager of Hull City. In early 2010 Brown had announced a three-year, 600-show contract to appear five nights a week in an entertainment extravaganza, A New Tan..., at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas.

Playing career[edit | edit source]

Brown was a nothing player but his experience in the lower leagues would later go on to help him in his illustrious managerial career and in showbiz

Managerial career[edit | edit source]

Brown met a young Samuel Allardyce at a teacher-training course in Normandy, France in 1994, and roomed together. The two decided to work on turning Bolton Wanderers into one of the most disgusting teams to grace both the Premier League and Europe. With help from the likes of fellow course members Jay-Jay Okocha and Ricardo Vaz-Te, the Wanderers took the world by storm and catapulted Brown into overnight stardom.

Soon cracks began to appear in the Brown/Allardyce relationship and in June 2005 citing 'creative tension', Brown took the decision to go solo. After a brief and much loved spell in Derby, Brown was appointed top billing at Hull City FC where he was to have his finest hour.

Having brought Premier League entertainment back to the Yorkshire club, Brown fufilled a life-long ambition and perform some of his greatest hits in front of the entire world. After serenading the lucky fans within the 200,000 capacity KC Stadium, Brown closed his two hour set with a cover of Beach Boys hit 'Sloop John B'.

Despite attempts to ensure Brown remained for another holiday season in Hull, Brown was lured by the chance to bring his show to Las Vegas and in March 2010 announced a 600 show contract to perform at the Colloseum, Caesars Palace

Las Vegas[edit | edit source]

Brown's 600 show, 2 year contract is reported to be worth up to £18. On signing the contract, Brown was quoted as saying "Money. It can buy a Bed but not Sleep. It can buy a Clock but not Time. It can buy you Sex but not Love".

Brown's Show, A New Tan..., has been panned by critics since its first show in April 2010. Critics have highlighted Brown's lack of vocal range, profuse sweating and facial hair as being some of several reasons the show has flopped. Barry Bethell of the LA Post wrote:

"Brown is simply out of his depth. The set list of the show is all wrong.
'Sloop John B' should be sung on the encore not 15 minutes in. The rest
rest of the show can be described in one word, SHIT!"

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Brown's trademark look throughout his career has been typified by his dark orange tan and choice of bizarre sweaters

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Brown had been married seven times (one of which was an arranged marriage) and is reported to have fathered over 25 children. Since moving to Las Vegas, Brown has cut off all contact to his family in the North East of England. "It's something I see as being very much in the past. I have a new life here in America and I deserve a fresh start" Brown was quoted telling Heat magazine
