Local Teen Embarrassed By Sex Ed.

Everyone during Sex Education has to learn about the dangers of rape. For some, rape just "happens to other people." But not for 17 year old Duncan McMahon, who in the past has had experiences with rape.

"People need to understand that rape is a real thing in today's world," the teen said. "I think it's embarrassing and hurtful to teach it at Health Class."

McMahon's past experiences with rape are not easy for him to deal with. "I feel like everyone's staring at me during the class. I know they're thinking about what happened that night."

McMahon paused before further commment, wiping away the tears forming at his eyes.

"It's very painful for me to talk about rape in my class. It always brings me back to that horrible night." By "that night," Duncan means seven months ago, when he brutally raped and killed a 12 year old girl walking home from school that night.

"I had just smoked a joint, and was horny as hell," said McMahon. "And there she was. It got a bit hazy, but I think she thrust herself on me. It could have been the other way around. I felt helpless at what was happening. I couldn't do a thing to stop it. I was no longer in control." McMahon often says he trys to forget that night.

"My friends are really supportive of me," said McMahon. "They know what happened, and they don't talk about it to me. But sometimes it gets to me, and they're there to help."

McMahon says that his Health class exacerbates his grief, and is often pulled from classes whenever lectures of rape are about to be presented. "I hate it when they talk about rape. They talk about it as if it's just an event. It's not. It never stops. Sometimes I want to scream during class when they give examples about Bob and Judy when they're alone in a basement. It makes me remember my time as a victim of rape."

McMahon says that his rape has had a huge influence on his life.

"It's affected me," said the teen. "Rape changes your life forever." "I consider myself a survivor of rape," he added.
