A floodplain is a flat or nearly flat area of land adjacent to a stream or river that is ideal for urban development. Historically, the proximity to the water and easy sloping of the terrain has been an important factor, as transporting water has been much more troublesome in the past, but today, floodplains have become the must-have property for more aesthetic reasons, especially for municipal buildings and other important complexes that require an architectural upgrade every few years in order to keep up with the current fashions.
