Grand Theft Chocobo is video game developed by Square Enix Co., Ltd. in conjunction with Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. The Game combines characters and settings from Square's RPG Final Fantasy VII with the open-ended gameplay and edginess of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto III series, all held together with completely new storylines. The game has been rated M (for Mature) by the ESRB.

Several companies, including Warner Bros. (owner of the popular Looney Tunes series), Nintendo (owner of the well-known Mario and Zelda video game series), and Lucasfilm (owner of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises), before Take-Two expressed interest in a crossover between Square's Final Fantasy RPG series and their highly successful (and controversial) Grand Theft Auto III series of games.
