Warning: This is certainly an idea. Or not. You decide.

Since Template:Awards looks like it might be going down soon, and since I'm not one of those guys who just deletes a template and calls it done (Side note: I have no idea if the hell busters actually do that), I had a slightly-revolutionary idea:

  • What if we make a bunch of file redirects to the images?

So, for example, if you want to make a notm award, we make a redirect to File:Noobaward.png called File:notm.png.

If this happens, that means we can shrink a 13,000 byte template... to about 250 bytes.

And the best part: Nothing has to change at all! No tedious template fixing here. No template bot here (mostly because we can't use it anyways.)

Here's all so far:

Yeah... nothing here, man. But... if I ever get approval to do this, the reign of Template:Awards will end, and barely anything will have to change. And to those who say to just replace all of the uses of Template:Award manually:

  1. It isn't much harder to optimize Template:Awards rather than to remove it (68 redirects to make, a bit larger than the 40 pages that have to be changed)
    1. Actually, it might not be 68 redirects to make. A lot of the award images are practically unused. It might be even less!
    2. Plus, making 68 redirects isn't that hard. Maybe it's because I'm just an iron-hardened veteran.
  2. Read this
    1. Okay well maybe don't read it because that's for a different thing but whatever

If this plan goes into motion:

  1. Nothing will have to be replaced/removed
  2. The website will run faster
  3. Everyone will be happier

So now I shall wait in my ivory tower until an admin approves of this pretty short mission. Let me get back to doing whatever I was doing before this...
