Titanfall 2
“"Prepare for Titanfalllll!" ”
Titanfall 2, (or Tightenfall Two), is a first person shooter video game developed by a bunch of disgruntled Call of Duty employees. It is a sequel to the game Titanfall released in 2014 (wait, there's another Titanfall? What???). In the game, the player takes control of Jank Cooper, a random soldier who gets to control a giant mechanized suit of armor that doesn't quite understand sarcasm and has a knack for getting destroyed a lot. The player can either make use of the Titan and its arsenal of weapons, or dismount and run around the battlefield where they will inevitably get shot or destroyed by their own grenades. The story follows Jank as he is suddenly promoted to a Titan pilot, and takes on the Interstellar Moronic Corporation, (IMC), as they attempt to send a soccer ball back in time to destroy some planet called Musical, Symphony, or Harmony or something.
Story[edit | edit source]
Jank Cooper wants to be a Titan Pilot really badly. So badly in fact, he just lets himself get nearly blown up in hopes that his mentor, Tie Last-of-us-mosa, will die and he can take his position. This inevitably happens when on the planet Typhon where the good guys crash landed, a bunch of other Titans led by some mercenary guy show up and start kicking Tie and BT around. Jank then inherits control of Tie's Titan, BT-7274 after Tie hands him his helmet and then croaks. BT figuratively and literally got the batteries knocked right out of him, so the entire first mission involves Jank going to the good guy crashed ship not once, but TWICE, and shooting a lot of lion-looking things and some aimbot robots. Then BT makes the brilliant idea that they should take a shortcut through some kind of house constructing facility. Hijinks ensue, theres a lot of platforming and shooting of robots and squishy people, and then a part where Jank faces off against two Reapers, (supposedly mini Titans or something), and blows them to little bits, in his mercy. Jank and BT then finally leave the house facility after exploding Ash, an evil robot who pilots a bigger evil robot, and Kane, a loudmouthed moron who poses zero threat even on master difficulty, due to his inability to utilize his blocking ability. BT and Jank then stumble on some kind of scientific facility where Jank keeps getting warped to the past for a couple of seconds for no apparent reason. This leads to possibly one of the greatest gaming sections of all time, wherein you can switch back and forth throughout time, causing general havoc to the IMC troopers and scientists, and just having an all around blast. Unfortunately this part isn't as long as it could have been, so eventually you discover that the IMC are building something to fold their sheets, and are planning on using a soccer ball called the "ark" to power the sheet folding thing to fold up the good guys home planet so it can fit better in a drawer. Jank and BT then have to alert the good guys of this development by fixing a satellite dish, killing even more robots, and kicking the teeth in of yet another Titan pilot named Richter. The good guys, now knowing how to track the soccer ball, fight to try and stop the IMC from putting it on a ship and flying it away. The good guys forget they have guns that can shoot a long distance, so after a lot of punching and short range shooting, the IMC just load up and fly away. Nice. So the good guys give chase in some stolen IMC ships, BT and Jank get to kill a truly annoying flying Titan pilot who won't stop acting like he is in the Air Force or something, ("Aaaaagh mayday mayday!"), and they successfully board the ship holding the soccer ball. BT stuffs the thing inside of the soccer ball in his chest, and the ship then crashes. They wake up to find they were captured by the mercenary who killed Tie Last-of-us-mosa, and BT is shot up again and "dies." Cooper escapes with a little glass cupcake that holds BT's AI, using a gun he found in BT's head, which OMG is WAY too powerful due to its aimbot function. Seriously, why not always use this thing, wtf. Anyway, the good guys of course have a spare BT body hanging around, so after dropping it from space, Jank puts the little cupcake in BT's face, which makes him alive again. Hooray, hopefully he doesn't die AGAIN in about 15 minutes! After even more punching and shooting of weak IMC units, Jank and BT run into ANOTHER mercenary Titan, Slone, who shoots a lot of lasers and is extremely overconfident. Slone of course gets obliterated, and the mercenary guy who killed BT twice now shows up, and... does nothing. He walks away. Ok. BT and Jank then decide the best course of action is to jump into the weapon powered by the soccer ball, but mid jump, BT yeets Jank into space. BT falls in the weapon, and it blows up. Jank does some parkour in the sky to get into a spaceship, and they fly away as the planet splits itself in two parts. Jank then stares out a window for a while and talks about how he was inducted as a pilot officially finally. In the post credit scene, Jank's helmet turns out to still have a little bit of BT still in it! Hello Titanfall 3! (Haha like thats ever gonna happen).
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Single Player[edit | edit source]
Unlike its unknown predecessor, Titanfall 2 has a good singleplayer campaign, where you take control of a character and sometimes his Titan, as you rampage across the planet, bringing chaos and destruction to everyone involved. Throughout the story, the player finds new loadouts for both the protagonist and the Titan. These can be changed to fit whatever is happening at the moment, be it a lot of weak IMC soldiers nearby, or even far away. The player can play some areas in either a stealthy fashion or just run in guns blazing. Half the time, the guns blazing is what it turns into anyway. The levels are quite large, and make heavy use of the parkour system and abilities given to the player. The player can run across walls like a spider, double jump, and do epic combat slides, all while shooting and tossing grenades! In some occasions there are unique gameplay mechanics. The most notable is the time traveling watch thing in the space time research IMC lab that lets you go back and forth in time in the same location. There is also the gauntlet, a sort of tutorial/race for the player, but it is kind of annoying and I hate it, mostly because my best time is STILL 40.3 seconds! GAHHHH!
Multiplayer[edit | edit source]
Everyone who plays the multiplayer doesn't know theres a campaign, and vice-versa. Basically, the more dudes you shoot in this mode, the faster your Titan meter fills up, and when its full you can drop in your chosen one to slay all the squishy little players on the battlefield. There is a whole lot of other things you can do that are sort of unique here, but in general its like COD but with big robots.
There are several game modes:
- Amped Hardpoint: You get shocked a lot, and if you get hard, you lose points. Flaccid is superior here.
- Bounty Hunt: Kill people, steal their stuff, then stash it.
- Pilot vs pilot: obvious enough huh
- Capture the flag: You go and steal their flag
- Attrition: the worst of them all. Regular deathmatch but with AI lil grunts
- Skirmish: Attrition but without the AI grunts
- Last Titan Standing: If you sit down, you lost!
- Free for all: Everyone hates eachother, but people still team up all the time like the miserable cheaters they are
- Coliseum: A one vs one, but there are no spectators and not a lot of Roman anything really, so kinds of lame
- Titan Brawl: the titans get really drunk and start tossing stools at eachother
- Frontier Defense: You just throw grenades and win bc the AI is pretty dumb
Matchmaking has been recently "enhanced" to allow even more access to cheats, causing a surge in new players (cheaters). I'm not just saying this because I'm bad at the game at all!
