The Mod Archive
“I'm going to have your upload rights revoked.”
“The module was rejected with no specific reason, however it may have broken one of the rules in the upload agreement or in the upload rules”
The Mod Archive is a website on the internet that is hosting the worst music ever for 25 years and counting! It contains over 150 thousand tracks which consist of nothing, but just some awful noise. Those tracks are called modules or MODs. Its current maintainers are m0d and Saga Musix.
The website[edit | edit source]
The website consists of a page colored in some yucky green color, like the one in a hospital. Your actions are very limited on this website if you don't log in. When you log in, you can finally rate modules (with a 1/10 rating, most likely), favourite modules (unneeded feature, no modules are good) and you can also upload more modules. They also like bragging about this feature called Minibox, but it doesn't do anything useful and most of the users don't even notice it while browsing the website.
The upload system[edit | edit source]
When you want to upload a module, you must go to the upload page and select if it is a module made by you or by somebody else. Then you upload the module. That is the simplest task, and here is when you did everything you could. Then comes the queue.
The queue[edit | edit source]
The queue is a checking process for all modules. There are several stages of the queue. The first stage is the Pending queue.
Pending queue[edit | edit source]
In the Pending queue, modules are waiting about 2 to 3 weeks before the only person who cares about this website, Saga Musix, listens to it and decides if it is good enough to be listed and archived. Of course, this is totally subjective, so even if your module is following all the rules, it will be either put in the Waiting queue (which is just a long way to reject your module), or just straightly rejected.
Waiting queue[edit | edit source]
In the Waiting queue, your modules sit there for about a month or 2 because another member of the module reviewer team, or a "screener", as those are named, needs to check the module. Because there isn't any active screener except Saga Musix, your module will be rejected. This queue is designed in order to give you a spark of hope before breaking your heart.
Ready queue[edit | edit source]
The Ready queue is the queue where your modules are waiting another 7 days in order for them to be displayed at the website. This queue exists so that the daily weekly content is kept refreshed.
Rejected modules[edit | edit source]
If you have too much modules that are rejected, Saga Musix warns you that you should stop dumping crap that obviously has to be rejected (even though it is completely fine and sounds like any other module on the website). If you continue with such "bad behavior", Saga Musix warns you once again. The third time is when Saga Musix actually revokes your upload rights. Oh, yeah, you could also be suspended from uploading if you upload "too much" modules.
Spotlight[edit | edit source]
The spotlight is given when your module gets a little gold star appended to its name. That's it. This is, too, completely subjective, and it doesn't rely on any other user's opinion. Of course, almost every module by Saga Musix and his fellow friends have been spotlit. There is also an artist spotlight that gets updated once in about 3 months, and Saga Musix holds a record for the most artist spotlights (4 times).
The charts[edit | edit source]
The charts are ranking boards that usually rank modules by the amount of downloads, favourites etc. These boards have been thoroughly manipulated throughout the years, as an awful and very crappy inside joke module got over 20 thousand downloads in just one day[1] and was placed 95th on the list[2]. There is also a Member Chart, where you get points for contributing to the website. Of course, the first on this board is Saga Musix, in lead with over 20 thousand points (revoking upload rights gives you 2 million points. Not many users have been revoked from upload rights lately, mostly because nobody uses this 25-year old bad music website anyway)[3].
ModArchive Distribution License[edit | edit source]
The ModArchive Distribution License is a license under which every module on The Mod Archive is published. Nobody exactly knows what does it do, as it is not documented, but there are speculations that it means that everybody can distribute your modules and use them as they want. It is not a good license, for sure.
