Mumble rock (Russian: Мамбл-рок) is a croaking and sometimes whining sub-genre of rock music, becoming a meme in Russia and Ukraine. There's no certain founder of mumble rock and it has few types of sounding, but the common thing is an illegible speech and guitar background sounding.

The history and possible creators[edit | edit source]

Mumble rock land's version[edit | edit source]

There are some rumors in the internet that mumble rock was initially founded in 2018 by 72-year Russian singer and philosophist Vadim Osipov (aka "Mumble rock land" or "Grandfather of mumble rock"). The first song made in this genre was called "Rock In The Nature". His version of mumble rock is similar to blues and country sounding. Also Osipov doesn't accept any other musicians considering them mumble rock singers and thinks that the origin of mumble rock stretches from Boyd Bennet's activity, who was the founder of mumble blues. Also he created the genre called "causa sue rock".

The version of MUZ-TV channel[edit | edit source]

In April 2019, the Russian channel "Muz-TV" published an overview of this genre, calling the pioneers of mumble rock the groups “Poshlaya Molly”, “Kiss-Kiss” and “Favlav” [1][2]. Also, in the review was mentioned that mumble rockers shoot mainly low-budget videos and reflect the behavior and problems of 20-year-old youth, and the style itself is close to punk rock and hip-hop. The same information was published in Russian wikipedia.

This fact pissed Osipov off because of stealing his genre's name. For more than a year he tried to restore justice trying to edit the page in wikipedia, but the administrators were undoing his edits and kept blocking his IP-s. ALso he made few dozens of videos punishing MUZ-TV and promising to fuck their ass. However, this genre is significantly different from what was called mumble rock by Vadim Osipov.
