Hugh Manatee
Hugh Manatee is a large aquatic mammal,and he is now going to be the standard-bearer icon for bringing "being green" mainstream.
Involvement with the Environment[edit | edit source]
Manatees are mammals that are often floating just below the surface of the water and often are injured by the propellers of motor boats, generally off the coast of Florida. It is sad and these sweet animals are close to being on the endangered list again. It is this symbol that made the best sense as a play-on-words for the word "Humanity" to have Hugh Manatee be the new symbol for green initiatives. We had Smokey the Bear to help prevent forest fires and McRuff the Crime Dog to stop vandalism and now we need a warm and fuzzy symbol for the efforts to lower our individual and collective carbon footprint.
Humanity = Hugh Manatee[edit | edit source]
If you think about how humankind is spoiling our landscape and doing damage to the environment, we need to all do SOMETHING good for humanity. That's why the new symbol for all green initiatives is Hugh Manatee, a sound-alike for the word humanity.
