DOTA 2
Defense of Towers And 2 (DoTA 2), is an educational game which teaches one Russian, Filipino and Chinese, and net eitiquettes, like it is a polite gesture to introduce yourself by saying his mother's hospitality provided you immense pleasure. The game is called so because the players know that they have to defend the towers somehow, they also know they have lots of other things to do, but has no idea what they are or how to do it, as the game tutorial goes as far as to teach you how to move the cursor with a mouse, and leaves the player to discover everything else on their own. The game differs itself from most educational game by being quite complex. Quite complex in fact that even the developers aren't sure what DOTa 2, which is a sequel to DOTA, but not really, as it is more a reboot, but again, not really, as dOTA 2 is actually a standalone game which just plays, looks, has characters, powers, items, maps, etc very similar to DOTA and is totally not a sequel nor a reboot, really is. (See what I mean?)
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
DotA 2 is an educational game in which 2 teams see how well they can praise their opponent's mother for her great and pleasurable geniality while also protecting the multiple erections placed throughout the map. As stated in the name, players have to defend their erecti..err..towers on their side of the map and 2. Teams consist of 5 and 4 players, and later on, 5 and 1 players respectively. There are 117 heroes to choose from, each having their own unique voices and skins. Other than the cosmetic differences, there are only 3 types of heroes viz. "N00b Spammer reported!", "First time please no report" and "Flucking lag!".
The game was highly praised for its unique way of difficulty selection. For easy, you disable all chat, voice and text. This way, you can talk about the opponent's mother while remaining immune to the replies. This is generally considered cheating and might result in a ban. For medium, you turn off voice chat only. This harms the players who depends on voice chat to execute complex combos creating an unbalanced playfield and might result in a ban. For hard, one turns on all kinds of chat. This, creates a noisy irritating static and might result in a ban.
Story[edit | edit source]
In DOTA, players learned that the heroes have to have to aid the defense of towers and... it ended with a cliffhanger. There is also a hidden "NEW GAME+" mode (SPOILERS!) that one unlocks after playing the game for atleast 1337 hours. The heroes buy some specific items and traverse through various parts of the map, killing of most other heroes and finally..wait for them to respawn and repeat the same cycle, all the while exchanging various remarks about each others mother, until opponent disconnects.
In DotA 2, which is not related to DOTA in any way, the heroes continue on their journey 2...
Development[edit | edit source]
Developed by Valve, the development of of dOTa 2 started in 2009. It was called Dota 2 and not DOTA 2 as to not confuse people with DOTA, which is a very different game and has nothing to do with DOtA 2. While some speculated it was to avoid lawsuits from Blizzard, Valve waved off those speculations when it stated it will be very different from DOTA as it has a 2 in its name. Development was also halted briefly when Billy's mother, a tester that quality checked the comments towards mothers in the game, stated that what 69BigDong69, a 12 year old, said about her was true.
Release & Reception[edit | edit source]
d0ta 2 was released as a closed beta in 2011, but since no one bothered except the Chinese, it went open beta in 2011. The game was not that popular in the western market as it was already captured by a game called LoL, which moms installed on every PCs they could find, thinking it was a game about the "Banana-like creatures that made me LoL in FB". It was a hit in the Chinese market as it finally allowed them to strategise, work out calculations, talk about other peoples' mothers, use their ninja like skills, all at the same time.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
A good way to find out about a game's legacy is to google "'Game name' rule 34" and..oh boy..gawd..is that a...i'd rather not talk about this please.
