Of Mice and Men
Of Mice and Men is a 1937 novella written by John Stainbutt. The story explores controversial themes of homoerotic romance and exploitation of the intellectually disabled, and its storyline preaches, in simplified terms, how fucking awesome being poor is. During the Great Depression in California, two migrant sex workers – George Milton, an intelligent but man, and Lennie Small, an ogrelike and retarded man who acts like a child for clout – are on their way from wherever the hell they came from to another part of the state. They share a dream of settling down on their own piece of land. Lennie's part of the dream is merely to care for his own rabbits. He loves touching women, although he always "accidentally" kills them by petting them too hard. George encourages this behaviour because he is an asshole. They fled from the depths of hell after Lennie grabbed a young woman's ass because he thought it was pretty. A mob forming to find and lynch Lennie. Through this, we learn how truly retarded these young men are.
