This guy looks relieved how he barely won the election.

The 2014 Vermont gubernatorial election was an election in Vermont. The Democrats expected to kick ass because Vermont is, uh, extremely Democratic, but only won via Congress backing them up in a 110-69 vote. No side recieved 50%, and they wished to avoid a coup, similar-ish to the 2021 storming of the Capitol.

2014 was a red wave year, meaning that the Republicans were expected to sweep Democrats out of existence. While the Republicans lost Pennsylvania to Democrats and Alaska to Independents, they gained Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland and Massachusetts, of which the sick one got reverted back to Democratic control.

History[edit | edit source]

Hmm...Vermont became a state in 1791 and oh right this is about the history of the election, not of Vermont. Lol.

Vermont does 2 year terms, therefore meaning they have to frequently launch campaigns. But nobody cares. Schumlin, the incumbent, won by 20% the last time but this time, in a blue wave, he didn't win on his own. And it was projected to be save, because, I mean, they are a severely Democratic state. But beware of the red wave. It can be very destructive.
