I find this list to be a useful resource. It fulfills functions that Category:Countries doesn't do. It indicates countries for which articles still need to be written (red links). It encourages uncyclopedians to browse the various country articles. It groups together articles for countries where there are multiple articles for the country, e.g., USSR, USA, Canada. While I did not 'start' the article, I have spent considerable effort in upgrading it (to find, assemble and group the articles) and updating it.
