UnNews:Day of woe to World's scientists: Russian fishermen catch and eat alien[edit source]
My first attempt at a completely original UnNews article. Someone pee on it... Pwease? -- Luverly - (Contribs) (Talk) 19:45, 26 Apr
Humour: | 8 | I like the article on the whole. Good first try. It just needs that extra push. |
Concept: | 8.5 | The concept is very good, I'll readily admit. However, you need to flesh out your writing more. Why did the Russians eat the thing in the first place? The one-sentence explanation is a bit weak. Where are the scientists ripping out their hair b/c of the "day of woe"? And i think you need to put the background info in the front of the article. |
Prose and formatting: | 7 | Sometimes hard to follow, b/c of a few grammar errors; needs some more transition sentences, but good otherwise. |
Images: | 6 | So-so. The one image was alright, and the video was simply weird, and not trying to be funny in any specific way. |
Miscellaneous: | 10 | N/A. (See concept section) |
Final Score: | 39.5 | This article has loads of potential. Just don't stop here. Finish this! |

Humour: | 6 | OK, I admit, I don't get it. From what it looks like, you have taken the idea from source article, and basically just re-written it in your own words. Am I missing something? It's obviously an elaborate hoax which someone has put together. As you said on the talk page, it's actually a real type of fish. As this article does not appear to be "original" in it's content, I'm kinda struggling to give a score better than 6. To be honest, I think there may actually be a more serious issue here in that as this appears not not be original work, it could be argueed that this article should not really be in Uncyc. As I said, maybe I have missed the point to this (I think I probably have) so forgive me if I'm wrong... |
Concept: | 6 | Again, your struggling here, as the idea behind this story does not appear to be your own.
the line: "They said that the fish' bears resemblance to a sturgeon on steroids. Looks a bit odd. Did they think it was a fish or an alien? |
Prose and formatting: | 8 | As I would expect, the prose is well structured, and only a few minor errors exist in the grammar. Well maybe it could be read a little more easily in places, and I'm not sure about the Russian. Do you expect most readers to speak Russian, or to bother to translate it? I doubt they will... |
Images: | 4 | Well, the only picture is the one from the video at the bottom, but I think this article would work better if there was a picture at the top also. Maybe do a screen dump from the video, and put a thumb image in the top right. Tis always nice to see a picture of what the article is about before you get to the end. |
Miscellaneous: | 6 | Averaged. |
Final Score: | 30 | Generally, the article is nicely written, an I enjoyed reading it. My main concern is the plagiarism issue. As I said, maybe I'm missing the point here. Is this not plagiarism? What exactly are you parodying here? If it's not plagiarism then cool, I have obviously missed what's going on. If this is plagiarism, then I would probably suggest you leave this article be, and have a go at something else... |
