Some other possible historical themes could be used, based on past Olympic venues:

  • The Sarajevo Olymics, re-enacted in Bosnia but concurrently with a re-enactment of the siège and ethnic cleansing inflicted on Bosnians during the darkest days of the Slobodan Milosevic régime
  • The Hitler Olympics. Berlin, 1936, recreated as a re-enactment of the last Olympic games before the worst war the world had ever known would make an international event of this size temporarily infeasible

And no need to invoke Godwin's Law to stop there, there are others. Re-enact the US 1984 games in Los Angeles simulentaneously with a re-enactment of the Watts riots or other historical civil unrest, for instance.
